Kamiss
Vice Captain

Kamiss leapt through the air and grabbed the branch they were sitting on. He pulled himself up and around the branch, reaching across Charlene to stroke Isirine. The cat purred, but with eyes staring straight at Kamiss it was clear she was warning him not to pull any funny business. Kamiss withdrew his hand, looking mock-scared, and Isirine glared at him. This caused him to scoot a few inches to the side and Isirine closed her eyes, purring intensified.
"You have an extremely opinionated cat over there, dont you?" Kamiss asked. "I don't know who helped you find her," Kamiss paused to not laugh, "but she sure seems a handful."
If Isirine could shoot daggers from her eyes, Kamiss would have been dead.

(Sorry for going on about the cat but I luvs da kitties and all that!)

Charlene laughed, rocking serenly back and forth on her perch. She rubbed Isirine's fuzzy chin with the back of her hand.
"I do believe that she found us. Remember? She was already here when I arrived. So maybe it's your attitude that she's taken on, not mine."
In response, the cat rolled over, comletely at home in the trees, and fell asleep. Amazed that Iz could be so confident that she wouldn't fall, Charlene grinned. She turned her gaze up into the night sky, searching for her favorite constellation. Worried, her brows furrowed, and she looked down at Kamiss.
"I can't find him..." she mumbled.

"Who? Ursa Major? Minor? Capricorn?" Kamiss leaped to her branch, Iz jumpeing up hissing and digging claws into Kamiss' back. Kamiss ignored her, and stared at the stars with Charlene. "Who are you searching for?" he asked again, Isirine clawing her way up to Kamiss' shoulders and perching there. Iz meowed her own question, and Kamiss momentarily wondered if it was about the constellation or about food.

She ignored Isirine's spaz as well, turning to see if her constellation was behind them.
"Orion. Every time I see the night sky, I look for Orion. He's been my rock, when I feel lost." She spoke in a reverant whisper.
It was upsetting, after spending so much time leaning out windows and lying on the grass, always being able to see the familiar star-pattern, and now, during the good times, not being able to find it.

Kamiss blew a breath out slwoly between his lips. "The Hunter? I am not sure it is too important tonight. It's probably this magic-induced night that is the problem." Kamiss knew well of Orion's blade, and the comfort stars could give. "Are you feeling lost?" He asked.

"Not anymore."
She whispered, almost silent. She was still bothered by her hidden guardian, but she settled back, accepting that it was not something she oculd change. She held out her arms, catching Isirine as she slid fluidly from Kamiss' shoulders. The spunky cat was back to purring, and the creature's earler attitude spurred Charlene to hum an old song. She was surprised she remembered it. It was a comical tune, called The Spunkie's Paradise. It made her laugh, and the brightness of the past days flew back into the night, sending a sparkle up into the ethereal heavens that reflected in Charlene's shining eyes.

Kamiss smiled, looking up at the stars. He did not turn his head and grin, and gave no huge outward sign of emotion. Just a quiet smile, looking at the stars. "Not anymore." He repeated, the smile still on his lips.

Letting Isirine climb down to the ground, Charlene looked up again at Kamiss.
"What do you think the future holds, Kamiss? Where will we be in a year, two years? Do you think we'll survive this cruel world of man?"
In her eyes seemed to burn eternity, as thoughts of forever and a day flitted through her mind.

Kamiss laughed harshly, but in a way that didn't sound so scornful. (I dunno how that works, but I'm rolling with it). "Of course we will survive, we have always survived. I remember when you came to this inn, a year ago and some few months. You were a survivor then, and still are. As for where we will be... I suppose in the same place. Maybe something will happen, and maybe we will change. But on the whole, two years is nothing compared to our lives, and so I believe things will stay the same." Then he smiled, chuckling. "Maybe fight another war or five between now and then."

(I'd say I'm kidding but I'm not entirely sure...)

Charlene grinned and stood, nodding to Kamiss.
"Come, enough talk for the night. Let's retire, I'm cold."
She wandered, only swaying slightly, down the branch and jumped lightly onto the balcony. She turned to look back only once, and then disappeared down the stairwell, Isirine trailing behind like she was attached.
