Eh, I think that Green Day has pretty ok guitar on that song, not the best, but still pretty good. I doubt it's the worst though. It's NOT a rip-off of chicago, though. Seriously. Not.

i had to play that Chicago song in band, 24 and 6 to 4, and trust me, it's a basic foundation for just about any guitar, it's so simple.

meeehh, critics. it's the risk you take to be in the music business i guess. the riffs are simple, but they sound dead beat wicked when they are played 3nodding anyways, i don't really care, as long as i like the song and i still like green day, i'm good ^___^ not like we're all gonna let some persons criteria get to any of us? even those who don't like the song preferably.

Not. It is kind of a rip off of Chicago, I only know this because it was blasted in my ear for 3 monthes, gargle, that song was EVIIIIL scream gonk crying But like I said, it was pretty basic, because Chicago was pretty basic.

I love the song, personally. The first time I heard "Brain Stew" I was like " eek OMG...that's an AWESOME guitar part!! *drool* heart "
It may be simple, but it's SWEET.
I don't know if it's similar to the Chicago song in question, because I haven't heard it. But as the lead singer of HIM once said (I forgot his name and I'm too lazy to look it up), all music starts with plagiarism. (It does...everyone has an initial influence...they don't just START making music out of nowhere knowing that's what they like or whatever.)

Haruko Tomoe In Guitar World's recent issue that had the 100 worst guitar riffs and solos Green Day made it #28 with Brain Stew. "This is a total rip-off of Chicago. The only punk thing about it is that it made you want to stick a flaming hot stick up Armstrong's a**."
Probably written by some shred old fart but anyway discuss. Thats mean!
