Richard followed slowly. his feet were tender and lacked any sort of protective padding. So he had to pick his way over the forest floor. "Right, talking coyote, nothing usual to see here." It could have been an attempt at a joke but his voice was so deviod of emotion it was hard to tell. "You're not the only one you know. I met Joliette a fee days ago. She's still living in her duplex. I jury rigged her door so she can open it now." On reflection, Joli's attitude seemed to be far more human than Pyroth's. Was that a hope? Or just difference between the animals? Was it easier to over come reptile instincts?
The train of thought was a welcome distraction from his own problems.

He laughed anyway "If anyone shows up I'll be quiet. See if I can fool them." he perked an ear "Really? So there has been someone else who went this far? Good to know." he said with a slightly too-malicious smirk "Misery loves company."
He flicked his tail and hopped up onto a tree root. " I would rather live as a wild animal out here than as a cripple with special needs back there."

Richard thought about his conversation with Joli and reflected on his own hypocriticy. He wasn't nearly as bad off as either of them. Sure he was turning into a creature that was never intended but damn it, he still had hands. Stunted and mishapin perhaps but they would serve. Better than the paws that Pyroth trod upon and Joli's pointed claws.
"She's... not a cripple Pyroth, we just need some equipment from the labs and move somethings around in her duplex. She'll be indepent." There was some confidence returning to his voice. "I could put the same handles on your duplex if you'd like. You have quite a bit more aglity than her though." He tail curled, showing some signs of life.

Pyroth snorted derisively. "In my eyes there's no difference between being a cripple and relying on the labs to help me. I'd rather throw myself off the cliffs than ask them for help. I never in my whole life, relied on anyone and I'm not about to begin now." He shook his head, not able to articulate his feelings on the matter. "I appreciate the gesture, I do, but I can't explain it, I don't want to live as a human when that's not what I am anymore on the outside, if you know what I mean?"
He frowned. "My mother used to call people like that "lamb dressed as mutton". No, I wouldn't want to go back to my duplex."

Richard was honestly a bit confused by Pyroth's talk. "So your human on the inside but you want to live like a coyote because that's what youy look like?" Richard shook his head.
At the mention of the labs and their "help" Richard found himself remembering Sabin's reminding him that he had absolutely no power over them. "The most frustrating thing about the labs is we have no bargining chips. We don't work for them, we don't help them but they still can get what they want from us. We are powerless to stop them." When Richard stopped talking, he realized that odd sound and vibration was him growling. He stopped and cleared his throat. "Ah hem."

Pyroth shrugged "Yes, if you put it like that then that's what I'm like, I don't pretend to be human in my actions because that just looks desperate and pitiful, I act the way I feel comfortable." He could scent the village on the air, the smells of cooking and people rather clear on the air. "I'm confident enough in my humanity to know that it's not walking on two legs, eating off a plate and opening doors on your own that makes you a human. It's something far far deeper."
He was never one for philosophy, what he assumed about the world was all stuff he had come up with on his own over the years.
"And yes, we can't do anything to get them to listen. They are cold and indifferent but in a way I can understand, they don't care about us because to them we are less than human, just meat to practice their experiments on. I don't grudge them that really, the only thing I grudge them is making us so aware of our lack of control, at least let us believe there is hope."
He himself understood the labs indifferent more than most, he knew what it was like to just allocate people inanimate identities and cease to care about them.
The growl knocked him off his train of thought and he laughed. "That the first time that's happened?"

"We just need to get something that they are incapable of obtaining." Richard said wistfully. They just needed one bargining chip, something to build on.
He made no comment on Pyroth's philosophy. He thought Joli was entitled to as much of a human life as possible.
As to the to the question about the growl, well he still remembered the halloween party. He had indeed growled then but that had been different, it head sounded like a human made it. The sound he had just uttered had been far deeper in his throat. "Um yes and No." He decided to be cryptic.
