Subject 437: Impact
Chapter 1 of 4

Meteor

Computers suddenly begin to flash and scream red. An older scientist, with an exaggerated mustache and a white lab coat, along with large rimmed glasses suddenly yells out, “WHATS GOING ON?!” A young woman yells back, “DOCTOR! ALL RADAR AND WEATHER SATELLITES ARE SCREAMING RED! SOMETHING BIG IS ABOUT TO COLLIDE WITH OUR PLANET!” The old man calls back, “Give me a visual!” From some camera drone placed on a cliff on some mountain, overlooking a vast wide grassy plain, the visual of the sky suddenly turning an orangy red, and in an instant, a gargantuan fireball came through the clouds which seemed to spiral open like some far off galaxy to allow the object in. It suddenly collided with the plain, and a visible shockwave was sent out, as soon as it hit the camera drone, the massive screen in the facility went static. The old man watched in awe as the space rock crashed into the world of Terra, forever creating a monument to its journey through the void, a crater, almost 700 miles in diameter.
Days later, a group of 12 dune buggies, each carrying the scientists from the weather facility, with the older one standing up and holding onto the metal railing that went over the top of the buggy, could be seen driving to the edge of the crater. The plains were still smoldering from the impact and there was chaos all over the place. The man yelled out, “I WANT A SQUAD DOWN THERE ASAP! WE NEED TO INSPECT THIS METEOR!” A younger man replied, “YES SIR! Doctor Jamieson!”
Within minutes, the crater was swarming with scientists and soldiers, all wearing biohazard suits to protect from any radiation the rock may have brought with it. Luckily, the massive stone, seemed to still be intact.
As excavation continued another worker called out, “DOCTOR JAMIESON! I FOUND SOMETHING!” The old man cam running over, to find that the worker was kneeling over a chunk of the meteor which had an unusual object in the center, a crystal blue stone, which seemed to be glowing a bit. Doctor Jamieson looked at it confused and said, “I’ve never seen anything like it...” Almost as soon as he said this, a black helicopter could be seen landing not too far off. When it finally touched down, the doors opened, and out stepped several warriors wearing very nice armor all engraved with the symbol of the nation, two dragons intertwined. Behind them, was a man in his very early 30's, wearing a black suit, he had slicked back black hair and dark sunglasses, and on his hip rested a ceremonial rapier. Next to him was an older man with thick glasses, he was wearing a black suit too, and his hair was slicked back as well. They approached Doctor Jamieson, who instantly bowed and said nervously, “Emperor Toji, we were not expecting your company...” The young man revealed to be Emperor Toji smirked and replied, “Well, I wasn’t expecting a meteor of this size to crash land into Terra and right on the border of my empire no less...Doctor Jamieson, this man next to me is Doctor Strom of Black Star Labs...” Jamieson looked over at the man accompanying Toji and nodded a greeting which was quickly returned. Jamieson then said, “To what do I owe this honor?” Strom then spoke saying, “We’re here with a royal edict explaining that all jurisdiction of this project will be transferred to my laboratory...” Jamieson’s face dropped and said, “What?! My Emperor, he can’t be serious! This meteor is entirely within our jurisdiction, it’s a natural weather phenomenon not one of those hideous experiments that Black Star Labs has going!” Toji smirked and said, “Actually, I can be serious and I am...Have your men clear out right away, and leave everything as you found it...Except...That blue stone you found...Bring it to me...” The stone was quickly brought over, and Toji and Strom began inspecting it. Toji then said to Jamieson without looking up, “Alright...You may go...” Jamieson grumbled a bit and stormed off. After Jamieson had left Toji smirked and said, “This could be it Strom...The ingredient we need to complete my ultimate weapon...” Strom returned to smirk and said, “Yes my Emperor...Its only a matter of time now...Only a matter of time...”

Chapter 2 of 4
The Collapse

As the weeks went on, and soon changed into months, work at the Black Star Labs was endless. After 4 specimens, Dr. Strom watched as his 5th failed. As he stands before the twin stasis tanks, which hold the fetuses of their experiment, the computers were screaming red as the woman at the computers said, “Doctor...We’re losing vitals from both Adam5 and Eve5...” Strom gritted his teeth and said, “Damn...It looks like another failure...” The computer alarms stopped and the life signs slowly flatlined. Strom reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief to wipe his forehead and then said, “Alright everyone...Thats enough for today...We’ll meet again tomorrow.” He headed to the door of he cloning room and was followed by his assistant, a younger man with a clip board short brown hair.

As they walked out into the hallway, Strom said, “Will...I don’t know what to do. Its been 3 years since the Eden Meteor’s impact with our planet...I don’t know how much longer the Emperor will wait before he pulls our funding.” Will replied, “Um, sir, I was meaning to talk to you...I don’t think I can spend much more time by your side.” Strom stopped and looked at him saying, “What do you mean my boy?” Will had a nervous look on his face as he said, “Well, we’ve barely made any progress and, I’ve been offered a career at a high paying pharmaceutical company...I’m planning on clearing out my room, tonight sir...” Strom at him with a strange mixture of confusion, sadness and a bit of anger as he said, “Your leaving my side Will? Now? Now that we’re so close?” Will then said, “But we’re not sir...You keep saying that with each specimen, you always say ‘the next one will be successful’, but they never are...And I can’t spend any more time sitting around and waiting to be successful. I have children and a wife at home who I need to support and who I haven’t seen in months...I’m sorry...But I must resign.” With that, Will turned and walked off in the other direction, leaving Doctor Strom standing there in the hallway as other scientists walked by him.

As the months went on the staff of Black Star Labs reduced greatly, they had all begun to think that this project was driving Doctor Strom insane. Doctor Strom found himself standing in a dark room, with 7 lights. One blue, one red, one yellow, one green, one orange, one purple and a white one. Emperor Toji was sitting beneath the white light and said, “Doctor Strom, we have decided that this project is...Not at your level of skill to complete.” Strom suddenly yelled out, “But my Emperor! We’re so close!” The blue light then replied, “Close to what Doctor? You’ve been attempting this for the past 3 years, the Atheian government cannot afford to continue funding you like this, not when we’re at war with both the land of Werra and the land Tribaal!” The green light jumped in saying, “Thats right! We must focus more funds into the military.” The red light then said, “Besides, we have been approached by a laboratory with a much better and longer list of cloning successes. Their also cheaper. Its known as Hail Labs.” The purple light then said, “We expect your resignation in 30 days...” With that, all the lights turned off, except for Toji’s living the two of them alone in the room. Toji then said, “You failed Strom...So your out...” With that, the white light turned off, leaving the doctor alone. Strom looked straight ahead and said, “Am I? Am I really out?”

Chapter 3 of 4
All For The Sake of Science

It’s a dark late autumn night in Atheos City. The huge towering Venetian style buildings would make the perfect shield for the crime that was to follow. A man, in his late-thirties, wearing a long tan trench coat was walking along one of the many canals in the city. In his left hand was a brief case, and on it was imprinted the logo of Hail Laboratory. The symbol was an artists rendition of a hail storm, raining down on the title of the labs.
As he walked along, he suddenly stopped, as a figure in a long black trench coat, with a black derby hat on his head blocked his path. The Hail Labs scientist looked at the figure and said, “Strom...So...Have you come to talk? Or simply kill me?” Strom lifted his head so his face was visible and said, “I’m afraid the latter is more likely Doctor Wilson...” He had his right hand in his trench pocket, and when he pulled it out, he was holding a silver gun with a long barrel, it was more like a short sword with a gun built into it. Wilson scoffed a bit and said, “And what will killing me accomplish Nicolas? Will it bring you happiness? Will it get you the vengence for losing your project to my lab that you seek? Or will it merely fill your heart with guilt?” Doctor Strom replied, “You don’t understand...I will be the one to finish this project, with government funding or not...Adam and Eve are like my son and my daughter to me, and only in my laboratory will they be born...You don’t understand...How could you? Have you ever felt what its like to have children?” Doctor Wilson said back with a serious look on his rather handsome face, “Your wrong about that Strom...I am a father, to two beautiful little children who you will leave fatherless if you proceed...Can you handle that guilt?” Strom smirked and said, “I’ll see you in hell Jonathan...” Doctor Wilson replied with a straight face, “You’ll be there before me Nicolas.” With that, Strom fired the gun, hitting Doctor Wilson directly in the heart. Wilson then dropped to his knees and in a moment flat on the ground. His crimson blood oozed out from his body running down the cobblestone sidewalk like a stream.
Strom walked over to his body and with his foot, pushed Wilson into the canal with a splash. Then, without a word, he put his weapon in his pocket and walked off into the night.

Chapter 4 of 4
Toji

About a week after the murder, Strom and Toji found themselves meeting in the dark of night on a bridge. Strom stood in his same black trench coat and black derby hat, while Toji wore his same old suit and rapier. As they stood on the dimly lit bridge that crossed over the Atheos River in the center of the capital city, with a perfect view of the royal palace from here Toji said, “So, you were the one who killed Wilson...I should have known...Let me guess, you plan on killing me as well?” Strom smirked insanely and said, “Yes, we’ve already moved the lab to a new location, and the operation is on schedule...” Toji sighed and said, “You realize, what your doing is treason...” Strom who was standing within arms length of him said, “Yes, but then again, with the power of Adam and Eve at my call, I can conquer this nation...” Toji glared and said, “Do you really think your going to get away with this? You know, they do say that second time you kill its...” He was cut off as Strom had plunged a large knife through his stomach. Then, with a swift push of his arm, Strom pushed the corpse over the side of the bridge reminiscent of the bridges in Paris. When he heard the splash he looked over the side and said, “Yes...Excessively...” With that, he walked off into the night once again, a two time killer, and a traitor.
But for Toji, it was not the end, the very next day, deep underground in the palace, three scientists stood in front of a large metal tube-like object. A door open with a billow of steam to reveal Toji standing there naked. After they got him a new suit and as they walked out of the gargantuan room fixing his tie, one of the scientists said, “How do you feel sir? Are all your memories intact?” Toji smirked and nodded saying, “Yes, this plan for my immortality works like a charm.” He smirked as they exited the room, but as they did, they walked by several giant green stasis tanks to reveal the room was filled with about 1000 clones of Toji standing in the water filled tanks.
As they walked the halls one of the scientists said, “What about Strom?” Toji looked over at her and said, “Him? Leave him be for now...His experiment will backfire on him, I have foreseen it, and he will perish...We can wait for him to destroy himself...”
Meanwhile, at Strom’s new lab, he stood in the cloning lab, standing before two large stasis tanks, in one, was a baby with white hair and a tail growing from its back side. In the other was another baby, with blond hair. Strom rested his hands on them and said, “Soon...It will all be finished soon...” On the tanks were two name plates, ‘Adam’ on the baby with the tail’s tank and ‘Eve’ on the blond baby’s tank.
