http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/misc_computer_games/final_fantasy_x_-_otherworld_tab.htm <-- here's the tab i'm using
i've actually got most of it down, considering i need about 5 more frets than my guitar has. surprisingly, it sounds cool on nylon strings.
well, my main problem is with the solo.
A) my fingers don't move that ******** fast
B) i need a longer fretboard

so, my questions are:
A) what, other than practice, will get my fingers faster?, and
B) should i just borrow an electric from one of my friends or something? i mean, i've even tried taping cardboard over the soundhole to extend the fretboard!

the reason i'm stuck with an acoustic is because my parents aren't gonna get me an electric until i get honor roll at school... yeah right!!

well, any help to offer?

I'm not the best with giving advice.

I say practice even though you don't want to hear that. Just play it slowly and make sure you got a good position for your fingers. If you want to you can borrow an electric from a friend because I don't think taping cardboard would help alot XD

Somebody will most likely come in here with better advice but if not just try this. It's what I do and it really helps.

There is no better or other advice for improving your speed than practice. Sorry, I know it's something nobody wants to hear, but its true. The sooner you realize and accept it, the better off you'll be (worked for me!)

As for the range issue, there's no way to extend your fretboard short of major damn recrontructive surgery on your guitar, which WILL be fatal to your guitar if you don't know what you're doing. Your best bet will be to forget about learning it and get your a** into those schoolbooks and start studying! The sooner you hit the honor roll the sooner you get to finish learning Otherworld!

It's very worth it though in the end. Nothing like jamming on your first electric for the first time, especially on a song like Otherworld (one of my favorites to play).

Can you not just save for a cheap electric or something?

I would suggest NEVER using finger weights. They eventually cause you to develope tendon problems and will put you outta the game for several months. The best thing is to sit down with a metronome. I sucks, but it works.

For the speed....PRACTISE. And if you stop, have someone hit you over the fingers with a metal ruler.

For the fretboard, just move the whole song a few frets down.

you cant move this song down - it starts on a D5 chord in drop D.

The tab for otherworld from ultimate guitar is crap anyway, so I wouldn't bother with it.

Really? I found it to be pretty good (the lead guitar at least)

Just go through the solo (very)slowly and eventually speed up as you get better at it. That's how you learn and you'll remember it easier.

A way to go faster is probably to practice scales. At least, thats what every guitarist has told me. Trust me, I know how you feel. I'm trying to get faster at a Dragonforce song
