Nodding her head, Marie could defiantly relate to Satoko’s justification of her hometown. Deep down, despite her connections to New York, she knew that she agreed. A tinge of homesickness knotted her stomach, but she brushed it away. The female extended a hand to her latte, taking a sip without thinking. It had grown slightly cold, but had mellowed out in the process. All in all, still good to drink.

Hearing Satoko sneeze, she placed down the glass and turned slightly in order to dig into her bag. She fished out a packet of tissues in what she felt was record time and offered a clean one, defined as not covered with dirt, paint, or anything else that a human being would not want near their nose, to the waitress.

The warm support that the other had offered her had helped immensely. It was a guarantee, at last to Marie, of trust. She was not one to let her memories be paraded around, but for this waitress she felt like she could make an exception. ‘I’m being silly,’ Marie thought, ‘Just going on like this.’ But her heart had taken the reins and her common sense was forced into the backseat as she regained the confidence to complete her monologue.

At the sound of Satoko’s hands clapping, the female eyed her, wondering what the sudden excitement. She listened. A child on Christmas morning could not display more delight than Marie at the proposal to buy some of her work. Her face lit up, a smile riding on her lips and sparkling in her eyes. “Really?,” she gushed, clasping her hands together in delight. “That would be amazing,” she continued, trying vocalize her joy.

It was not often that people offered to purchase her work during her “off seasons,” as she privately referred to unemployment. If Satoko could really borrow a bit of the restaurants money and buy even one piece, her day would be made. “Right now,” said Marie, “All my work- a few new paintings and a bunch of old stuff- are in my loft. It’s not in the best neighborhood, but during the daytime its fine to walk to, especially since its close to the edge of the district.”

She continued, “I don’t know how to work this out. Maybe I could take you there during your break? Or on a day off? I’ll leave my cellphone number with you, and you can call me when it’s a good time for you.”

((It's very weak. My sincere apologies. I'm a dead being during the week.))

A half relieved half smug smile caressed Satoko’s lips unnoticeably as she watched out the corner of her eye that Marie did seem to enjoy the drink she had prepared earlier. Despite all the pleasantries exchanged it was nice to see that she had gotten back a little, replaced the judging sneer at her drink with a more appreciative look. A small wave of guilt washed over her silently, immediately making her regret that she had still held such a petty thing against this obviously enjoyable person. This idea was only re-enforced even more into her head when Marie was kind enough to offer one of her own tissues, it had been surprisingly quick for her to retrieve the soft tissue and hand it towards Satoko, how nice that someone would rush to do so over a small sneeze. She took it and turning away blew into it quickly, getting up and walking over to the bin and then the sink to wash her hands. Only then did she come and reposition herself comfortably on the couch.

There was a lapse in her monologue, the brief summary of her life and how she had come to be where she was today. Was something wrong? Perhaps it just got a bit more personal than it was meant to. The last thing Satoko wanted was to be pulling on something that was best left alone. Weren’t artists meant to be depressed or something like that? Marie didn’t seem that way but when you’re paying almost $80 an hour for some shrink you’d damn well hope for good results right? Besides which a woman coming into the restaurant a feisty young woman then coming out distressed in any way was not good publicity, regardless of the saying ‘all publicity is good publicity.’ or something along those lines anyway.

It was during this brief thought Satoko had come up with her plan to perhaps buy some of the art and now that Marie seemed delighted with the idea it only spurred her on and you could almost see the bogs and gears in her brain working as she thought of the idea more and more. Her delight was fuelled further by Marie’s expression, such joy would probably not be seen in the dreary plastic restaurant for a long time to come.
“Really.” she answered in reply, thinking that perhaps she could even hop off the couch now and stroll to the studio Marie had babbled about which held her paintings and current projects, though her more logical and usually self was insisting she had to stay and look after the place, but what was a few minutes anyway?

Finally that logic did win, not because of time and who would look after the place but because she’d have to organise the money later today when she had more time with the boos to talk about it, not to mention prepare some small kind of excuse for taking an amount of money out of the budget. The man was a rare spender and a heavy saver despite his young appearance. Twiddling her thumbs she thought hard about the proposal.
“How about I get your address and number? We could go over a few days which might be good for both of us later, though I think the best time might be a Tuesday morning if that would be okay with you. Around 10 or 11 most likely.”
She bit her lower lip, mentally going through the list of what days were most important and which ones were classed as ‘.slow days’.

((It's fine, really. I mean mine is just as slack today. Truth be told I've been dead for about the past two weeks xP Sorry about the slowness and shtuff, really bad stuff happening in RL lately, won’t go to far into that. Btw, congrats on Chione, she's so cute! - feels specials she gets a reserved roleplay spot in journal- xD Also if you would like a brief look at Satoko's appearance I recently acquired some concept art of her and it's in my quest thread for reference and the like.))

Marie was halfway to her feet before she knew it, her body tingling with delight. Every purchase made, no matter how minuscule, added another brick to the barrier erected between her and the boardwalk. And now more than ever, with winter a half-starved wolf growling around the corner. Instinct told her that the city’s tourist population, her potential valued customers, was about to plunge.

Embarrassed by her eager display, rose coloring her cheek bones like a finely added blush, the female eased her butt back onto the couch. She kept her grin, but wiped the bounce out of her attitude. Half of a purchase price was making sure the other person knew you didn’t need their patronage that badly. Desperate artists went for desperate prices. Unfortunately, Marie admitted, she was already headlong down the wrong approach.

Her attention once again resumed its priority on Satoko. Marie intently watched the waitress, taking note of the fact that the other seemed deep in thought. Maybe she hadn’t noticed Marie’s little display. At least, that was what Marie hoped. A petite frown tugged at the corner of her lips as her mind tried to guess at what Satoko was pondering. Maybe it was funds, Marie thought, feeling hollow. ‘This better work out,’ she mulled over silently, making sure not to voice that thought.

“My address and number?,” she echoed when Satoko pipped up. “Sure- one second.” Pushing her blazer aside, Marie rummaged around her tote for a brief instant before producing a pen. Deftly, she tore a piece of paper out of her sketchbook- the edge miraculously not ragged, and flicked the cap of the pen up and off of the apparatus. It landed at the base of her latte with a dainty plop. She wrote the requested information, half mumbling to herself as her flowing letters covered the paper. “Marie.... ah.... Analiese.... Orbase.... Apartment... uhmmm... Three... and... one-three-eight Bellendone Street. My celll is... ah damnit... wait... eight-one-nine.... eight-eight-one-nine.” She finished with a flourish and a sigh.

“There we go,” she said, half to herself, half to Satoko, offering the piece of paper to the waitress. “Mind you that I’m located in the slums of this city, you know, so be careful. The apartment’s only three streets in but any can happen,” she warned.

Hearing the day offered, Marie nodded with appreciation. What luck. Tuesdays were always quiet. “That would work for me,” she stated. “Just name the date and I’ll drop by here and pick you up at ten. Or eleven. Either-or, for me.” The female took a sip from her latte, her fingernails tapping the sides.

((Thanks. Sorry for the wait; school's been a bother but I get off in a week. And Satoko looks nice~))

Hm Satoko eagerly took the paper with Marie's number and address, for something that had started out so bad and harshly this was easily becoming to take a more optemistic and positive form. A new look for the place would probabbly even bring in some new customers, it was getting slower everday, even around lunch.
she read the numbers over and over slowly in her head, already trying to memorise it in case something happened to the precious peace of paper, like being thrown out or lost as so many things like this were beyond the tidy looking exterior of the restaurunt.

She laughed when Marie talked of how she lived in the 'slums' of the city. surely it couldn't be that bad right?
"I'm sure it'll be fine, I'm a big girl you know, tie my own shoes and everything."
she said, rolling her eyes and getting up from her seat to go wipe down a few benches as a new person entered the shop obviously looking for something to eat. she ran a hand through her hair to try and tidy the alread neat ponytail it was in and once again put on the plastic smile.
"Good morning sir, Can I get you anything?"

He was dressed in a cheap flashy business suit, a wannabe trying to look better than he was. His choice of a cheap latte concreted that evidence, but who was Satoko to judge but instead offered the newly prepared drink after five minutes of work and with a cheery 'Thanks and come again!' She watched him leave as soon as he had come.
She sighed, it looked like it was going to start becoming a more normal time for people to come in.
"Ten sounds great, I'll see if I can try and class it as a business trip as well so I can still get payed."
She laughed playfully at the idea.

Marie's hands fluttered to her waist, elbows sticking out in the commanding pose. A soup ladle in one palm would complete the picture of an elderly, but world-woman. It contracted her face absolutely. "Really," she started out, her voice ever so slightly condescending.

Before she said another word, however, she realized the picture she must be- a young woman, younger than the waitress was Marie's guess, and trying to preach like some seasoned gal. Her cheeks refused to carry a sigh of blush, but her hands slipped into her lap as quickly as they could without attracting much attention. She sighed and then continued, 'If you say so." Her eyes twinkled merrily as she bounced back from her hidden embarrassment, "But i'll still keep that store down the block in mind. Just in case you have need of a diaper."

Her voice faded at the entrance of the other man. Man, he looked lost. Her nose wrinkled in disgust at his attire, and Marie found herself in need of suppressing an urge to stick her tongue out at his back. As he ordered, she leaned back, first grabbing her cold latte, relaxing on the couch. Pretending to sip at the drink, almost as if it were a steaming beverage too hot to gulp, she observed the character- and Satoko- from over the rim.

At one point, noticing the facial expression the waitress had re-glued to her face, Marie pursed her lips, sending a trickle of latte running down her chin. Forced to lower her drink, she wiped up the liquid with the back of her hand, softly shaking her head the whole time.

By the time Satoko had said her parting lines with the guy, Marie was dry. "Must you always slap on that smile?," were the first words out of her mouth, however, her tone was not critical. "It sends shivers down my spine, though i'll admit to doing it too. But people feel more welcome when the atmosphere is more relaxed, and most can judge a fake grin by instinct. " Oh dear, she was preaching again. "Mhmm," she drifted off.

She listened intently as the other female summarized her plans, and laughed along side her. "Brilliant. Good luck with manipulating him into that. But yeah, i'll be looking forward to it." She finished the last dregs of the latte and looked at the drink in suprise.
