Have you ever been in a show where they had to cut a character or scene for various reasons? If so, what show was it and what reason did they have to cut out the character?
I ask because my show is going to be doing the show "Working" and we're cutting out the prostitute because she's a little racy - and by a little I mean the sea is a little big. She's also very dark, it's not like Mimi in Rent who has a pleasant outlook despite being a bit hookerish.
In the past I've been in a show where the crocodile was cut from Peter Pan (I never got the scoop as to why).
Last year during Once Upon a Mattress we had to cut out the song Normandy because there wasn't enough time to learn it.

Last year we had an orginal peice, and we had to take out a shooting part, and rework it. Even though it was showing that shooting was bad.
Strange.

Hermineko Last year we had an orginal peice, and we had to take out a shooting part, and rework it. Even though it was showing that shooting was bad. Strange. At my school I directed and helped to set up a Domestic Violence Awareness Assembaly. The principal (who is a completle jerk) tried to make us take out the part where one of the characters talks about how her mother took her in the middle of the night and they'd drive around after her father had beat her mother. The principal thought that it wasn't "realistic" or "likely to happen." The teacher who set up the DVA Assembaly LIVED THROUGH that. We ignored the principal.

I was in Grapes of Wrath...but my character was cut out because it was in the 2nd act. We did the 1st act for competition sweatdrop

When we did Metamorphoses we had to cut the story about Myrrha (sp) and her incestious relationship with her father, partially to shorten the run time, partially because... it's about a woman's incestious relationship with her father eek
We've cut other shows, mostly due to length and such though. Especially for one acts.

I hate it when things are edited out. D; [most of the time] For me, it throws everything off [if you're familiar with the original version] and it's like buying a cake then taking all the frosting off of it. It's just not the same, and not near as good.
But if it's being played at a school, I can [of course] see why things might be edited out.

My high school director tended to cut out anything that had to do with smoking. Mostly because she hated it, but also because powder cigarettes are a little hard to come by and kind of expensive. As far as pipe smoking, you could forget it. I don't know why somebody doesn't market powder smoke pipes, or at least cartridges for them.

My freshman year of high school our musical director cut out a ton of songs when we did "Sweet and Hot". >.> The show was already horrible to begin with as the show made no sense and most of our leads couldn't sing, but The songs were cut mostly for time reasons >.> as for content, they kept in a song about prostitution and tried to make it sound like going on vacation.

That would suck so bad to be cut out. Our choir directors could never get away with that- there are so many people who try out, it would just be cruel to cut someone who made it.

This past winter my theatre ensemble did Dark of the Moon, and we had to cut/group together multiple roles simply because the ensemble was not that big. Luckily for me, that meant my role (Mrs. Summey) was much meatier.

People normally get cut from scenes because they do not turn up to rehearsals. This has happened in all the shows i have been in..."Oliver Twist", "Showtime", "Footloose", and this year also; "Billy Liar"
