Quite frankly, I'm surprised it made it to number two. All things considered, it's a dinosaur of a game with bad graphics, weak battle system, and gaping holes in its story. Sure, it has a huge fanbase, but there are better games out there.
Mind you, I'm trying to be impartial here. I personally think it rocks, and I'm thrilled it made it to second place.

It was a good game. I got FFXII and haven't finished it yet. It's ok hasn't really grabbed me though. FFVII was very good, I loved it. In the end though there are better games out there that I do hold near to my heart. Turok, Rogue Spear, Day of Defeat, those are all good ones too that hold the same status in my oppinion. For a series I'd say Zelda takes the cake for being consistently good and sticking to the good ideas. I hated 9, why? The characters SUCKED. We had a monkey boy for a main character. Red head chicken albino face (aka Amarant). I still haven't figured out wtf Quina is. Little girl with a demon horn. Rat lady that flys around. Vivi was the only cool one. Even then he was plain and his story didn't really strike me or anything. FFVIII was good, I liked it. Nice battle system, cool characters (mostly). Ten would've been cooler if it wasn't for Meg Ryan being the main character. Don't even talk to me about 10-2 aka "Barbie Dress Up" (btw easiest RPG I've ever played, I blew threw that game and never even once hit a snag at all) I'm not a big fan of MMO's so eleven is eh whatever.
Seven was good, eight was good, none of the others have stood out as being really good. As for best game ever? I probably couldn't decide because there's too many genres, probably have to do it genre by genre.
