The light brown lioness lay in her favorite place in the world, the copse that her loving mate and her had first spent a night together. It was a place she wandered away often to think and to day dream. Her heart soared in this place and it fell as well. She was unsure of her children, and terrified she would not be the mother they both needed. At this moment in time she was unsure where her darling boys had toddled off too.

Sighing she lifted her head looking up into a bright noon sun and she prayed as hard as she could for rain and for a storm. It was something that had tied her and Mvumo together. How could she tell him her fears like all of the other times he coaxed them out but now...fearing she did not want her children..?

"Mvumo..Mvumo..Mvumo," she looked around expecting her words to summon him.

The dark brown lion had left his sons behind for their afternoon nap, content that they were out of harm's way. There were other lions and lionesses keeping guard for now. He'd owe them the favor of watching their children later, perhaps, but for a moment alone with Aadil, his love, it was most worth it.

He would not have been able to do this when the cubs were younger, when he could see how much they were like himself and his brother when he was young and a member of the Mistweaver pride. The thought of harm coming to either of them was too frightening to think on, so he tried his best to put it out of his mind. The cubs were older now; they were learning more about the world, and how best to defend themselves. He was confident in his pride's ability to protect them.

And now...he saw her, in an all-too-familiar spot. A soft grin appeared on his maw as he quietly approached her side. He didn't hear her calling his name, but he was at her side relatively quickly after that. "The boys are sleeping..." he whispered.

Startled a toothy grin spread across her face, she had no need to be frightened, not with him. "Oh really..." she purred playfully and stood to greet him, pressing her face to his chest. He would always be her comfort, and that's all that mattered in her opinion, he would always be her tie to everything. The scent of him flooded her nostrils and she pressed out a long comforted sigh.

She had blocked out the pieces of her past, her mother and the cave that they had first met at. Her mother only kept her for company and not out of love, and her fears that she was doing the same kept her from remembering.

"We have not spent a moment alone in some time, those runts of ours are all over the place," she giggled like a child, "I have such feelings for them.." not always good she wanted to add.

Mvumo purred back at her as he put one of his paws on her shoulder, pulling her closer to him. "They are good children. You did well," he said. It was good to be speaking words almost as well as the other lions, even though he only really spoke around Aadil. "Next time, I'll make sure there are girls to harass me instead of boys to harass you," he said.

He knew that it was probably hard on her to not have a girl cub. It was awkward enough caring for cubs the same gender as himself; he couldn't imagine what it was like for Aadil, who was in some ways out of her element. He hadn't heard her mention male relatives, and he didn't know what she knew about men before she met him. All he knew was that they were here, now, and he was content.

The boys looked so much like his brother and himself...one day, even if it was just in passing, he would have to show them the Mistweaver lands, and teach them to respect their ancestors.

The feeling of his arm around her pushed some of the fear away, of course she would not be a horrible mother, she had Mvumo to help, and an entire pride, no?

"Girls?" She smiled at the thought of having a little girl of her own, one she could parade around like Ave and one she could teach things that girls did. She couldn't relate to little Kubwa's climbing, or Kip in any way.

"I..I was wondering where Kubwa's name comes from? I know that our little Kip looks like a mouse..or more like you..but Kubwa.." her voice trailed off it was a question that was long since coming. She wanted to know if it meant anything important to him or if it was something the larger lion had created.

Mvumo did his best to hide his frown, but he knew that his mate would guess there was something wrong. He was hoping to save this conversation for when the boy was older, when he didn't look so much like his namesake that it occasionally hurt the dark brown lion to think about.

"Kubwa's name comes from my brother, the brother that I lost long ago." Mvumo said. "When I was taken by the Firekin to be a slave, I tried to protect him from the same fate, but our mother was killed, and he...he was just a cub," he explained, doing his best to remain strong, though a few tears did trickle down his face. There were some pains you just didn't get over. "I do not know what happened to him after that, but when I returned to the lands of our birth after I escaped, there were no lions left. There had been an entire pride, but now...nothing. So, when I saw that Kubwa looked almost exactly like my lost brother, I gave him that name in honor of those who are lost, in hopes that someday...someday, he will be a strong lion, protecting others from the same fate."

She raised her eyes to look into his, keeping silent so that he could finish his tale. A gasp escaped her as she realized the meaning of her second borns name. A tear trickled down her face as she realized he must have gone through so much and she knew without a doubt the reason for all of his silence.

"I... I am sorry about your family, and about your land, my love," she pressed her body closer to his and let out a feline whimper. How could she question him more about the subject?

Mvumo looked at her, looked at the sky, and let the tears flow. "Thank you," he said. He felt that this was what he was always looking for, without realizing it; someone who would understand his past without judging him harshly for it.

After a moment's thought, he said, "There is nothing we can do about them, or about the land now." Mvumo said. "I can only live my life to the fullest, with you and our children. I have not decided when I am going to tell Kubwa about his name. I'd rather he not think about it too much while he is still a cub."

"I ask that you do not tell him about his name until he is at least a teenager," she snapped quickly and looked down ashamed. She was afraid for her second born, afraid that he would not understand the past of his father, and above all afraid that he would associate himself with a dead relative.

"H..h..ho..how did your mother die, how was your life as a slave?" she stammered out looking back up into her lover's eyes.

((Gah, sorry! I'd completely forgotten about this RP!))

Mvumo looked at his lover for a moment, amazed that she had snapped at him. He knew that she didn't mean it, but he also knew that she was right. Kubwa did not need to know while he was still just a cub. In fact, Kubwa probably didn't need to know at all. "I promise you that I will not tell him about his name until he is a teenager, and not until he asks me. If he doesn't question his name, he does not need to know. Besides, he's a Pridelander now, and as far as I'm concerned he'll be a Pridelander all his life. The Mistweaver pride is dead."

The brown lion shuddered at he met Aadil's gaze. He couldn't lie to her; not after all they had been through. But those questions...he could still see the blood on his paws, and he could hear the screams...no, Aadil didn't need to know everything. "Terribly, and terrible." he said. "I do not wish to speak of such dark things here."

"Someday I wish to no, but not now..our boys are young and maybe one day you will share your tale with all of us," she pressed as much of the fear as she could out of her voice but she was unacustomed to her lover shoving a question away so suddenly.

She pressed ehr body firmly into his and wanted to completely disappear into his mane she did not want to meet his gaze, she felt ashamed for asking such a question.

"So tell me...where do we go from here?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 04, 2007 12:04 pm

"Perhaps, someday..." Mvumo said, though behind the smile he was forcing for her dark thoughts entered his head. He would never leave Aadil or his boys, but if she knew...if she knew what had happened to him, and what he had done to protect his brother...would she still love him, or would he be a rogue again, prideless and unwanted?

He dismissed such dark thoughts for the moment as he felt Aadil's warm body next to his. He did not want to speak of such dark things here...he did not want Aadil to look at him with disappointed shock.

"I will follow, wherever you lead me," Mvumo said. "I leave the choice to you, and you alone, just as I will leave the choice to our sons when they grow older and decide what to do with their lives."

Quote:
"I never want to see them grow... I want them to be babies for ever," she thought of them little Kip and his large blue eyes, and Kubwa with his pure white fur...they were perfect and she prayed that they stayed that way, at least for a little while.

"I say we head back to the children, I could use a day time nap too!" she joked and tugged playfully at his mane, she would push the hard dark feelings away, only for him. She closed her eyes thoughtfully, her boys were the only thing that mattered, and Mvumo was one of the boys.

"They will be our babies forever, no matter how big they get," Mvumo said as he laughed. He thought about the two of them...such innocent cubs, with so much to learn. He didn't know how he could possibly be the father of such excellent boys, but he put it to the same luck that brought him to Aadil in the first place.

"Then let us go back to them; I would not want to deny you what you'd like," Mvumo laughed and batted at her tail, forgetting the terrible memories for now. Someday, perhaps, they would learn the full tale, but not now. Naptimes were too rare now to pass up.
