Character name: Xi Fa Nickname/Stage name: the Silken Butterfly
Age: 24 Hair color: Black, sometimes dyed with streaks or tips or patterns to match his costumes. Eye Color: pale green Nationality: Half Chinese, half...something his mama's not talking about. (His father was a guardian spirit with the traits of a silk moth; needless to say, his mama doesn't want it generally known that she's got odd tastes in men.) Heritage: Upper-middle class Chinese-American. (See World)
Personality: Arrogant enough to be a performer, but generally quiet and calm-natured. Wicked smile and the sense of humor to match, but his truest joy in life is performing and bringing surprise and awe to the faces of anyone at all. Without an audience to please- even if it's just casual conversation- he is restless, sometimes snappish, and doesn't know what to do with himself. Because of this, he generally prefers notto be alone unless he's practicing something new.
Interest: All forms of dance and music, silkweaving, glass Hobbies: Dancing on streetcorners or in parks for amusement, painting fans/silk, calligraphy Talent: Dance (Chinese fans)
Background: Ever since he was born, Xi has been protected from outside view because of his wings. For this reason, he's most often been homeschooled and not near enough interaction with people. All of his 'friends' were online people; he gave all of that up to seek out life at Cirque.
His mother is head of Marketing at a large company; he attempted to follow in her footsteps, but those wings of his don't look very good hidden under a suit; he completed his degree in business online, then went looking for more interesting pastures. AKA, Cirque. He's been working with her up to this point.
World: RL-modern day. Computers, fast cars, Environmentalists, politics, and iPods. Xi Fa lived with his mother in a posh New York apartment.
Oddities: Xi's act almost always begins with him wrapped in what appears to be a silk coccoon- actually wings that extend from his shoulders and back, made entirely from silk. They shimmer with many different colors, and tend to reflect whatever color he's wearing. He cannot fly with them, exactly, but he can somewhat glide, and they make an excellent addition to his dances...though the wings + the fans are a bit difficult for his concentration right now. Most of his clothing is backless for this reason, but the wings seem to be a part of the outfits so it isn't as apparent.
Other Random Facts:
1. Cusses frequently, always seems guilty like he's expecting his mother to show up horrified. 2. Very delicate appearance. Wears women's size 7 shoes. 3. Hates to have anything restraining his hands- rings, gloves, etc. 4. Will be wearing silk if at all possible. Loves the way it feels to the point of FETISH. 5. Allergic to apples.

*blows kisses at the mule* heart
Also, he was in my head today, so he got a bit of writing whilst I was at lunch. n.n
Apples
There's an old man who brings me an apple every morning. He's been doing this for years, coming of my office to deliver his charming little package with its single postit note, 'Love Dave- have a great day!' It's very sad, really, that he's had me mistaken for someone else. You see, I've only worked at this company for a year, and I'm allergic to apples. I also suspect that he believes me to be a woman, and mistakes my long hair for the tresses of a lady.
Walking down these blue-carpeted hallways with their designer paint combinations is always a strain on my patience. There is such a desire to break a window and run free of these corporate chains that some days I force myself to patiently ride the mirrored elevator down to the entrance area and just...sit. Sit on my hands if I have to, but sit regardless, and remember what it is like to feel the sun on my back. Sewn into my expensive suit, choked by the high-class cologne, I practice the art of not moving for several minutes while I attempt to regain my focus and my breath. The butterflies will never fly near me when I'm in my suits, and sometimes I think that is the greatest tragedy of all.
Concrete walls soaring over me are touched with stylized mosaics, probably intended to subtly direct the minds of the workers inside towards business. As I sit on my efficient and uncomfortable bench, I look over the tiles and ponder picking away at them, seeing how easily the pieces would separate from their grim facing. My hands are always still, but others have not been so kind; the smokers often come here and leave their marks in missing tiles, cigarette butts, and scrawled ballpoint pen. They have no care for the things around them, but I know sometimes I am no different.
The wings on my back ache, as they always ache, and my shoulders are tense in the comfortable denial. Old Dave has returned again, his slightly clouded smile as bright as ever as he gives me a gentleman's bow, and offers the apple. I take it. Though it will leave a rash across my skin in about twenty minutes, I pull out a small knife and cut him a piece; he is warmly thankful, and chats a moment before drifting off into whatever activities he has planned for the afternoon. I throw the apple away and clean my knife, flexing my fingers against the red already staining my very pale skin. The note goes into my pocket to join its brethren, tucked away in a box on my desk.
The sun is warm. The shadows are a welcome distraction, and I like apples.
