I did a Euphonium Quartet and a Trio comprised of Two Horns and a Euphonium as well as a Violin Solo. I got an Excellent on my solo (I was totally jazzeed) and Superiors on both of the other Ensembles (I was doing sapztic dances down the hall). But pretty much, what I learned is that if one thing doesn't work out, you gotta just keep trying. My trio was originally going to be a Violin, Horn, and Piano, and we attempted this uber-hard piece in which I had to transpose a Cello part for the Horn player and... That didn't work, so we shuffled some instruments around and did quite well... Probably because the two people in front of us got 'Good' for their rating. As for the Quartet, the judge was mainly impressed with the fact that we got four Euph's together (though our school has 11 scattered throughout different bands) and that there was also a Horn Quartet and Tuba Trio from our school (We were big on large groupings of rarer brass instruments this year...).
biggrin But it's totally a good experience, even if you get a crappy rating- gives you something to strive for NEXT YEAR!
