Tarajia sat on the edge of a small stream and watched her reflection ripple in the current. The sun hadn't even begun to touch the forest canopy, so her outline was nothing more than a shadow on the water. But she knew what it should look like, what would appear to her when the sun had fully risen.
Not Momma's daughter. Momma's son.
The cub grimaced. It was hard enough conforming to her mother's wishes... but then taking charge of her other sisters? There were too many of them! Even Momma couldn't keep up with them all. Most of the pride she'd first felt as her mother's favorite had frayed with her nerves; she was just tired now.
So sometimes it was nice to get away for a little while, even if it did mean rising extra early. She could always take a nap in the afternoon with Senna.

(For once I am too lazy to go get an image. XD)
Indeed, there were so many of them. Six girls.
In reality, it was more like five. Because while the majority of them were prone to wandering off, 'adventuring' (aka getting into/starting trouble), there was always the ever-lazy Swa, who barely moved at all.
And then there was Ohahira.
Over-dramatic, foolish and declared by a few of her sisters to be a flat out 'idiot'. Which, in some ways, she may have been. But at the same time, she was observant, and was the first, sometimes only, to take notice when one of her siblings was in distress.
In this case, it was the Reverse.
Though she'd aged slightly, Ohahira hadn't changed much, and still used nicknames. However, she'd moved on from simply 'Sister 1', 'Sister 2', etc. They all had single names now.
Tara's was 'Reverse'. Because she was like the Female Life Giver, only reverse.
"You shouldn't wander so far away," Ohahira piped up from behind her sibling. "The Female Life Giver doesn't like it when we do that. Imagine! A horrible monster could JUMP from the Earth and eat you right up, then return in the ground and no one would EVER know! Or a God could swoop down from the big sky and carry you off!"

"Eee! -- oh, Hahi."
Tara tried to force her puffed fur to fall back into place and assumed what she hoped was a faintly disgusted expression. "A God?" The black cub rolled her eyes. "Oh please. Everyone knows that they don't really exist."
Not that she had a real idea what these 'Gods' were... Momma just said stuff to them sometimes, when she was mad. But they'd never done anything, to help or to hurt her, so they must not exist.
"An' I 'spose a monster could snatch me up, but wouldn't let him get away with me so easy! I'd slash him and bite him, make him real sorry he ever messed with me!"
Hmph. She supposed that if something big did come along, she would make a rather tasty snack. And wouldn't be able to do much about it, either. But if she thought she was weak, she would be.
"But you, Hahi, you could get hurt out here!" Which was true, actually. Hahi wasn't know for her exceptional survival skills. Not that Tara was exactly an expert on them.
