Okay, quick question. Why do people from the Kansai region tend to say 「どす」 instead of 「です」? Even the subtitles on TV have them saying "dosu" instead of "desu."
Why?

you have been very malinformed:
~there is about a dialect for every 10 km in japan (no kidding, i know this village in chiba that has its own dialect, its insane!)
~thats not kansai that kyoto (they re close)
~DIALECT

Yes, it's just Kyoto, and, from what I heard when I studied there, VERY, VERY few people actually use it anymore. The people on TV must have been very old, or doing a parody. xd

lol, all I know is "desuuu~" and nothing else. I'm really curious about how Kansai people sound, though.

We sound rough. Think gritty almost street slang. My friends wont talk to me in Japanese because they say Kansai-ben is like grating your teeth. I love it though. I get down with it!
