I recently found a new fansubbed anime called "Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto." Besides being about the most hard to spell anime I've ever found, it also has several qualities that make it a must see. I was hooked after just seeing the first episode.
Basic Summary: It's 1868, the last year of the Bakumatsu. When Akidzuki Youjiro, a dark and mysterious ronin, nears something supernatural with some kind of importance to him, the ornament on the end of his sword hilt waves in its direction, his eyes glow mysteriously, and he is driven to go after it. He comes across a traveling theater group who is out for revenge, and whose mysterious playwright likes to secretly help along events of history. Youjiro joins them to lend them his skill against their enemies, while dark conspiracy continues to follow behind him.
The music and art are wonderfully done. So far most of the characters are still a bit mysterious, but their designs are wonderfully done. There is a great deal of historical information to be had, and lovers of Japanese culture will love all the references, such as a kabuki play about the life of Sakamoto Ryoma that is shown intermittantly during the episodes. Many important historical figures also appear, such as Takamori Saigo, Keishi Katsu(Remember him from the RK filler arc?)
I found the some of the episodes on YouTube. It's worth the time of downloading for the quality of its art though. (And buy it when it comes out!!!!)
