Well, today a nostalgiabomb and minor grail came to me.
I recieved my Soundwave 25th year anniversary pack with four tapes.
For the first time ever, I debated on opening the package. After so much spent to obtain it, should I 'devalue' it by daring to *gasp* play with a toy?! Yes. And it was good. He is blocky and barely posable, just like I remember. his tapes are awkward, just like I remember. Everything is just like the first toy I ever had of this line, and the tapes I wanted so badly. Yes, my friends, this is what awesome feels like.

Another toy is now mine . . . Masterpiece Grimlock. Now, I managed to acquire the Toys-R-Us exclusive version, so no metal, and he is minus some of the accessories. No bow-tie, apron, or mental transferrence helmet. Still, he has what was important: Blaster and Sword (both light up in the appropriate hand), and a nice shiny crown for bot mode.
He is quite posable, but the head waggle function with his tail is a bit awkward. All in all, I could have easily done without that. Also, the option to change his eye color in either mode is a decent gimmick, but not enough to warrant it being a selling point. I will say that his tail transformation is quite nice though. Instead of having the chrome tail bits hanging off his shins, they transform into his legs, going for the more cartoon accurate view. I wish I hadn't had to get him off ebay for the added expense, but yet another Masterpiece is mine.

Well, I've gotten a few things, and some are better than others. I am writing this post however for another glaring success of the Classics/Universe line. Sergeant Kup is made of win. His alt mode is not quite so 'cybertronian truck' as much as 'old beat up Earth truck.' In his vehicle mode, he looks old style, and even has a working tailgate to his truck bed. Yeah, it is nice, and has a feel like the old animated Kup truck. The color is spot on, and really a nice little vehicle. His weapon even has storage under the vehicle with the barrel being one of his tailpipes.
Now, on to the transformation. I'll admit there is a bit more plateforming than I would care for- but not enough to be a problem. The panels are a slight issue with wanting to fit into Juuuuuuust the right place for vehicular mode. Still, most is not an issue again. The transformation is satisfying for his torso, and his knees are a bit more involved than I suspected they would be. Overall a nice effort. My real joy comes from the fenders of the truck. They are spring-loaded, so when the cab and hood of the truck are changed, they pull in to make a V for the sides of the torso! A really cool bit.
Bot mode, Yeah, I get the grizzled old vet here. His face is even stuck in the angry yelling "You better listen to me" face with lightpiping in his eyes. The only issues I have are his doors from the truck make for awkward arm panels, and he has a bit of a backpack, but we are not talking Bayformer Sideswipe levels of backpack. The weapon is a freakin musket rifle! Only can be held with one hand at a time, but overall, this just screams the Kup of ages. If you have seen it, and had the cash- get it. If you didn't get it . . . shame on you.

Just got a load of PCCs. Doubleclutch with the Rallybots is actually a nice-looking set all around. However, Doubleclutch's forearms are on balljoints. They shouldn't have been. His forearms will come off if you even look at them funny.
Windburn with Darkray is an awesome little guy. He doesn't sacrifice anything for having to have a torso mode.

PCC Dinobots are EFFING HOT. Some really nice robot-dino sculpts, the uniform colors really bring the combined mode together, and Grimstone has a really classic Dinobot feel to him. And I don't know if it's an intended feature or a happy accident, but the pachycephalosaur has spring-loaded headbutting action. If you get only one Power Core set, get these guys.
The only word to describe Cyberverse Powerglide is PERFECT. This is the mark that all new versions of old toys are aiming for, and he hits it. It's like the same toy as 80's Powerglide only better in pretty much every respect. And the sidearm made out of A PILE OF MISSILES doesn't hurt either. (And his hands are c-clips.)
And finally, MOVIE 3 MEGATRON. I've been looking forward to this thing since I saw leaked pics FOREVER ago, and he does not disappoint in any way. He's the first movie Megatron to really have a visual sense of character to him, IMO. The rubberized tarp/cloak is awesome. Like G1 Motormaster, he turns into a truck AND trailer together, and the joint between truck and trailer is articulated to a degree, extra points to the design team for that. And Holy Primus YES, they snuck c-clip mount points in. His smokestacks and a point hidden as part of a panel on each side all accept c-clip weapons. (UPDATE: I just discovered his spring-loaded fusion cannon locks in the expanded position if you twist the ladder/button after pushing it all the way. Score!)

Last one for a while, THUNDERHEAD with Major Tungsten. I'll be honest, this is going to be one of those "Love It Or Hate It" figures. There'll be no middle ground. Robot mode looks nice, but his articulation is decidedly awkward, and he's one of those figures that has his hands stuck in the bicep curl position. Thus, he can't really hold his gun quite right. I usually leave it in the slot on his back. But if you're like me, you won't be getting him for the robot mode. "Mobile Weapon" mode is like a miniature Cyber Sled, which is one of the top arcade boxes in my opinion, so you KNOW I love this mode. It also vaguely reminds me of Armada Demolishor, which is probably another love/hate figure, but I kinda dug him, so there. "Mech Suit" mode is what first sold me on this guy. It kinda reminds me of the old Exosquad toys, which were damn cool. Power armor in general is nifty. And it's just different enough from robot mode to be satisfying as it's own thing, and not just a dude shoved into the robot. And the cockpit has molded controls and buttons and doodads and gizmos all over the inside, which they didn't have to do at all, so extra points. And he's got a bunch of c-clip mounts on him, so you can load him with weapons. There's no kill like overkill. As for Major Tungsten, the articulation of the little Human Alliance figures has impressed me from the beginning. In a 2.5 inch figure you have: Neck- rotation Shoulders - universal joints Wrists - rotation Hips - universal joints Knees - universal joints AND on top of that, the hands are rubberized to actually grip stuff. The sculpt is also fantastically detailed. In particular I dig his elbow/knee pads, and the sculpted thigh holster with sidearm. As for the face sculpt, I have only one thing to say. "Have you seen this boy?" So yeah, if you think you may like him, buy him and you won't be sorry. If he's not your thing, you can probably tell that much right away from the box pics.

Cyberverse Ironhide: He's awesome. I haven't confirmed, but I'm pretty sure his vehicle mode is the perfect size to be compatible with Hot Wheels tracks. And the barrel of his gatling cannon is mounted on an axle so it spins, which I DIG.
A few complaints, his shoulder joints are awkwardly placed, and though his combined cannon is c-clip mountable the handles really get in the way of most mounting positions on most figures I've tried. But really, these are excusable at his size and price point.
~
HA Tailpipe and Pinpointer with Sgt Noble: This thing is FULL OF WIN. Go out right now, buy this set, and then come back and finish reading.
Tailpipe is a nice-looking motorcycle, but swing his wheel assembly forward and pop out the HOLY SLAG IT'S HIDDEN WHEEL BLADES YES and he becomes a mountable saw weapon for Mechtech figures or anyone else that can hold a standard peg. But he doesn't need a bigger figure to do that because he looks like a cross between a Jet Moto and an industrial harvester, I can see this thing hovering along and slicing stuff up. As a robot, he's awesome. From pictures, those blue things on his head might look like some kind of robotic oculus assembly that some figures have. They're not. He's got a little face under them. Which means they're weapon barrels. WHEREVER HE LOOKS, HE CONSTANTLY HAS FOUR GUN BARRELS ON HIS FOREHEAD AIMED THAT WAY.
Pinpointer is a tiny little guy packing major artillery. He's a little bit bigger than usual minicon size, and he has no minicon port, so he's not a minicon. He turns into a weapons package that mounts on the back of the motorcycle, or a FRICKING BEEFY hand weapon.
Between the short pair of rungs on Tailpipe that at least two c-clip weapons each can occupy, and Pinpointer's HUGE TRACTS OF rail for c-clips, you can load these guys up with an amazing arsenal.
Sgt Noble: He's a great little figure, as is usual for HA humans, but you might want to look at his face through the packaging to see if you can find one without a DERPface. The eyeball paint apps on mine were put about half a millimeter too low, which wouldn't be a big deal on a larger figure, but at that scale it's... very noticeable to say the least. xd

Just imported some single-packed Arms Microns, the Dark Matter Calibur sword guys. My camera is crappy, but somebody posted fantastic pics at tfw2005.

I highly recommend picking these guys up, seriously. I also got the bull/drill guy, and he's fantastic too. He fits nicely in Leader RotF Starscream's wrist to give him DRILL PUNCH.
