How it began: Ayden's New Guardian

Dragain
{I do not know what to put as the tittle. xD;;}

Dragain walked towards the park, feeling that she had to go there now. Ayden and Elana were walking closely behind her. It was only an hour ago had she woke up from a weird dream, one with someone she had never met before... However, she had saw Ayden in the dream as well, and took it as a sign.

"Well, dream or not, you two want to go to the park as well, right?"

Elana clutched her brother's hand, and nodded at her mother's question. She had felt the urge to go, although it was in the middle of the night. Both Ayden and her had woke up at the same time from a dreamless sleep, their hands linked together tightly.

She knew Ayden had felt the urge to go as well. The bond they shared meant that she could almost read her brother's thoughts, and she knew that Ayden could read hers as well. They were so similar, yet so different in their own way... She had a feeling Ayden would not sleep beside her again after tonight.

Ayden did not answer Dragain's question, nor did he want to. He saw no point in going to the park, and he would rather be sleeping at home. However, Elana had insisted that he went along, and there was no way he could refused his sister.

"Nothing's going to happen," Ayden assured Elana, offering her a warm smile. "We'll soon be back at home, sleeping."

"You wanted to come to the park too, right? I could feel it."

"Elana..."

Ayden sighed, looking at Dragain's back view from where he was walking. He knew that Elana was nervous about having him staying with her family, although he knew she was happy to be with him. He winced, thinking of what had happened to his guardian.

He couldn't possibly blame Elana for wanting her to find a new guardian soon...

Jedah Shade
((I think the title explains itself fine ^.^))

Being the nocturnal type, it wasn't odd for the young woman, Nina, to be prowling about at night. Though tonite felt a little bit different. This wasn't just the urge for some doughnuts as a midnight snack. Her walk tonite seemed purposeful.

As her worn black sneakers found themselves walking through the grass of the local park, something outside of the half feline felt as if it were calling her out. Maybe it was the odd sensation she got from the dream that found her in her sleep just before going out.

Shrugging to herself, the cat type smiles while feeling a bit silly at how caught up in her thoughts she was. Most times after waking, there was barely a thought to fill her head for at least a half hour.

Taking a break to lean up against a nice sturdy oak, the blonde woman pulls her leather looking jacket closer around herself as her sea green eyes noticed each breath she took coming out in tiny white puffs. It was almost beyond her, why she was even out and not curled up in a warm bed, but still that nagging feeling wouldn't set her free.

Dragain
{That's good. x3}

Dragain paused, stopping a distance away from where she had saw a figure in the park. Turning back to look at the two children behind her, she took Elana's hand and pulled both of them forward. She had a feeling all the answers to the questions swirling around in her head, were contained in this one female.

Striding over, Dragain stopped a metre in front of the woman. She caught sight of her face, and greeted her with a warm smile. Yes, she recognised that face. It was the face of the stranger who had appeared in her dreams just a few hours before this. Was she somehow connected to Ayden?

"I... Uh... You might find it difficult to believe," Dragain spoke with some hesitation as she let out a nervous laugh. "I'm Dragain, and I really need a talk with you. It's of real importance. I hope you don't mind, Miss...?"

Elana and Ayden turned to look at each other, before looking at the two adults before them. Dragain had said that the talk was of 'importance', and since she had took them with her... It must be regarding the twins.

"Elana," Ayden whispered, talking in a language that sounds alien only to others. "Are you thinking, what I am thinking about?"

"Yes, I think so..." Elana replied softly in that same tongue, before biting her lip. "Is that... No, is she going to be your new mum?"

"I don't need a new mum! Besides, I'll rather stay here with you..."

Ayden narrowed his eyes, looking down at his shoes with an almost child-like temper. He don't want a new guardian... Look what he had done to his previous one! However, he knew about Elana's fear of the same thing happening to Dragain.

Jedah Shade
Flicking an oversized ear, a few of the feline's thick blonde hairs fall to her face as she heard footsteps drawing closer to her. Turning her attention away from the park she had thought to be empty, Nina's cool gaze cuts through the dim night air to see a woman and two children approaching.

"A lady with kids?" she thought silently with a slight sway over her bright yellow tail. "That's not the type of person I'd expect to find me this late at night. Or just in general."

"Evening," the young woman chimes out before the trio drew very close. Nodding her head lightly as the woman began to address her, the blue eyed girl could only blink curiously as it seemed these strangers had come to talk to her specifically.

"Nice to meet you, Dragain. I'm Nina. Nina Mare." It was even more curious that this woman had some sort of important message.

The two children with her was the next to catch her attention. Somewhat mirrors of each other, one girl dressed in bright clothing and a boy clad mostly in darks. They conversed to each other all the while in words she couldn't really understand.

"Does this have something to do with these two?" Pointing with both her milky white hands, Nina's head tilts a bit to one side as her curious nature had caught up with her.

Dragain
"Well, in a way, yes." Dragain answered, relieved that she didn't take her for some crazy woman. Clearing her throat, the female wondered where to start, "Let's see... This is my child, Elana." She gestured towards the girl, before turning her attention Ayden.

"And this... Is Ayden." Dragain nodded, looking at Nina again, "He was under someone else's care, but seemed to have found his way to be with his twin sister. He's staying with me now, but I'm not his legal guardian... Elana enjoys his company though."

The blue-haired female laughed softly, her tone changing to one filled with seriousness, "Right, back to the topic... You might find his hard to believe, but I saw you in a dream that I had a few hours back. Ayden was in that dream as well, and then, I had this urge to visit this park. I have reason to believe... That you are Ayden's new legal guardian."

"I'm sorry if it sounds sudden, but please take me seriously for now?"

Elana looked at her brother, and spoke only so that he could understand, "Ayden... You feel the same way, right? I can sense it in you..."

"No way," Ayden replied, his tone becoming sharp as he continued, "This woman is much to curious for her own good. She should just leave right now, and stop with all these questions... Then your mum wouldn't get so many false hopes!"

"Ayden!"

Jedah Shade
"A way?" Her curiosity was peaked, and the cat type was even more surprised that she had guessed correctly. So the children had something to do with her? Beside's her friend's little one, Nina had about zero or less experience with kids.

The blonde woman nods her head to each child as they're introduced to her. "Nice to meet you, Elana." A slight pause as her ears flopped just a bit as she nodded to the young boy. "And you Ayden." Her attention stays for a brief moment on the dark skinned youngster as something in the back of her mind tugged at her once more.

"So he doesn't exactly have a home for himself anymore, does he?" Nina reflects halfway to herself as Dragain explained further. Nodding as the little tale unfolded further, it seemed to take a second before what the woman had said clicked in the feline's mind.

"Wait, you think I'm-" she pauses in midsentence to point a finger to herself before aiming it back to the young boy who seemed to have his own share of doubts. "...supposed to take care of him?" You could see the nervousness on her pale face while her ears flicked once and again.

Though looking to the young one again, there was something about him that she couldn't quite shake. Though him losing his home reminded Nina of so many of her own days she spent by herself. Though her home was near friends now, she still lived alone in her shop.

Coming to terms with what seemed to be a fate set specifically for the two of them, the blue eyed girl kneels down before Ayden with a curious smile. "I'm so sorry about losing your old home, but if you like, you can stay with me now?" The words came somewhat fumbling out, not sure if she was talking to the Tale like he were too much of a child.

Dragain
Dragain paused, looking at where Nina and Ayden were. Giving a faint smile, she mused out loud, "It's just that... What are the chances of dreaming about someone you had never met before? Furthermore, Ayden was in that dream... It's like, the dream's trying to tell me something."

She walked over to stand behind the two children, and nodded, "I just have this feeling... Call it a hunch, but I think that Ayden's new guardian, should be you."

Elana bit her lip, nibbling on it before giving the female, Nina, a side way glance. She had a nice face, no doubt, and maybe her mum was right... It's time Ayden got a new home, and a new mother. They'll still see each other, and it's not like they would be forever separated.

The girl looked up at her own mum, and realised that Ayden must also yearn for a mother again.

Ayden frowned, looking away from Nina's eyes, unable to look into them. What if history was to repeat itself? That night... He couldn't control it, but he blamed himself even though Elana had said it was an accident. The boy looked at his feet, clutching Elana's hand before giving his reply, "No... I want to stay with Elana."

"We'll still see each other again, even if we're not living together..." Elana offered Ayden a smile, before turning to Nina, "You'll let mum and I visit you, right? I'll still be able to meet up with Ayden, right?"

Jedah Shade
Flicking some of the stray strands of hair from her eyes, Nina nods back up to the other woman with an amused smile. "The four of us coming together at an empty park in the middle of the night? Pretty unlikely. Though I'll admit, this is the first time I've been a girl's and not a guy's dream girl," she couldn't help but tease to help lighten the mood.

She wouldn't show it outwardly, but the young woman had her fair share of doubts. It was crystal clear that Ayden's sister and Dragain cared very well for him, but could she be just as good a family? For some reason though, she felt a deep connection somewhere inside, and truly wished to help the young one out in any way she could.

Though her thoughts seemed to have drifted, the quick reply from the young boy snatches her attention once more. A tiny keen smile tugs at the corner of her mouth, almost feeling challenged by his very self assured words.

"No?" the cat type begins as her tail began to sway smoothly through the still chilly evening air. "Are you afraid I'll steal you away?" she continues with a catty smile, raising her hands up slowly to the youngster's face. "Though I can see why you might be worried, since you're so cute." The cool gazed woman pinches his cheeks just lightly in her fingers, trying to keep from giggling.

As the younger Tale's light voice found her large blonde ears, the feline lets the poor boy's cheeks go and gives a little v sign with her hand. "You'd both be welcome to visit anytime you like! We'd be family of course." Letting her smile turn back to the darker Tale, those deep green eyes of hers fall to the boy's feet before she finished. "That is, if you'd let me be."

Dragain
"Yes, that's why it can't possibly be a mere coincidence!" Dragain laughed, shaking her head. Looking down at the older of the twins, she smiled and continued, "Ayden... Just needs to think through about this. I suppose it was all too sudden!"

Elana looked eagerly at Ayden. This Nina woman was fun, and she's funny to boot! Giving Ayden's hand a squeeze, she spoke, "Hey, I'm sure it'll be fun... We'll still get to see each other, and you get a new mum! Besides, I... I really want you to have a family of your own."

Ayden frowned, looking at Nina before rubbing his rather painful cheek. He stayed silent for a moment, before he queried in a small voice, "Do you want to know why I'm homeless now? Do you want to know what happened to my other mum?"

The boy lowered his glance, and avoided eye contact with anyone, even Elana. He paused, and took a deep breath before talking again, "I killed her... Do you still want to be my mother?"

Elana gave a small gasp, "But it was an accident! Just an accident!"

Jedah Shade
"Oh, I totally understand," the feline agrees with Dragain, giving a tiny wave of her hand. "It's not like I want to force you into anything, Ayden," she goes on as she turned half her attention back to the male Tale.

Smiling a lil more as the young girl urged her brother forward, Nina couldn't help but give a tiny giggle at all the things that she, and most likely Ayden, had noticed about her. Nodding in full agreement, she is quick to add, "Your sister couldn't be more right. We're going to push those gloomy clouds out the way, and have lots and lots of fun."

It felt a bit weird, trying so hard to get someone to look on the bright side of things. Actually admitting silently to herself how much of a slacker she normally was, but the blonde woman was desperate this time to help Ayden out. Like a switch had been flipped inside of her to turn on her maternal instincts.

Though again, her spacing out was cut short as the darker Tale began to question without time to give much of an answer. It was probably something the aspiring caretaker would have to get use to.

"And is that what you're afraid will happen to me?" she asks calmly right in return to the youngster's reasoning. Parking down onto the cool grass right in front of him so it was hard for his gaze to escape her, a smile still rests on her pale features and continues on, "Well it's not something you need to be afraid of or guilty about. I'm sure your mum was happy to take care of you right to the end, and even if it meant she couldn't go on so that you could live, I know she would do it again."

Leaning in a little closer, she searches out his gaze with her large green eyes, so hopefully her sincerity might be seen. "And I'm willing to do the very same. I may not be the best suited, or have lots of experience, but I'll always be here if you need me for anything."

With a small white breath, the cat type rises to her feet once more with a quick pat to the black denim shorts she was wearing to rid her of any moisture that might have collected from the grass.

Dragain
"How about it, Ayden? I promise to bring Elana over often," Dragain smiled, looking at the boy. She hoped she don't sound like she's rushing things... The whole 'get him a new guardian' thing might prove to be difficult for him to accept.

She turned her eyes to Nina, and gave a silent agreement. She had met Ayden's previous guardian, and even she could see that she was happy to look after him... Until the last minute.

Ayden looked up, his eyes filled with feelings of uncertainty and surprise. He looked into this woman's eyes, wondering if she really meant what she had just said. He knew his mother loved him as much as he cared for her, but when he had found out what had happened to her... Well, to say the truth, he was too afraid to go near anyone.

He had thought long and hard before going to Elana. Even then, he was afraid to go near her family members.

"I... I just don't want to go through losing anyone again." He finally muttered, looking away from Nina. He was frightened of getting attached to her, then going through the process of losing his mother again. Staying silent for a moment, he looked up at the woman.

Giving a small and almost shy smile, he continued, "But if you don't mind me... I won't mind calling you my mother either."

Elana broke into a smile as she looked at Ayden. He had finally started to walk out of his own barrier... All thanks to Nina! She let go of her brother's hand, and gave a nod when he looked at her. It was time for him to have a new family.

{From here, you can RP as Ayden. x3}

Jedah Shade
((Alright, lets do this thing biggrin ))

"Not only that, but we'll visit them just as much," Nina notes as well. Catching the young boy's gaze, she does her best to tell him everything was going to be alright with her own eyes. The feline barely notices her light hand rising to rub the soft white lockes of Ayden's hair.

Those large ears atop her head slowly rise and fall as the blonde woman listened carefully to his concern but shakes her head promptly with a smile still. "You don't have to worry about me going anywhere. Us felines have nine lives afterall, right?" While she hadn't ever tried or even dared to find out how much truth was in that idea, it would hopefully help them both rest a little easier.

Staring almost intently as the young Tale decided his new fate, the cat type's big smile returned as he gave her permission to take him in. Not wasting a moment, she wrapped him right up in her arms to huggle him up to the cotton shirt she was wearing under her coat.

"I knew you'd make the right choice," she beams, holding onto him for dear life. It almost felt like tears might stream down her cheeks if she didn't do something, so she quickly blurts, "I can't wait to get you home, and put you in a pretty pink dress!"

Not exactly sure what to do once she embraced him, the dark Tale slowly ushers one of his arms around her back until her last sentence. Then he was squirming right in her tight hold to get free. "B- but why?" he asks, almost looking pleading for the rest of his family to give him a hand.

"It's my hobby," she teases further before finally setting the youngster free, but makes sure to catch his hand so he wouldn't scamper away with second thoughts. "But it's late, isn't it everyone? I'm sorry to keep you all out so late."

Dragain
{*nods* x3}

Dragain laughed, giving a shake of her head. Taking Elana's hand, she gave a smile, "It's no problem! After all, I have a feeling that if I didn't come here to meet you today, fate wouldn't let it go either... I'm sure that you'll have fun with Ayden... And he'll enjoy being with you."

Elana gave a nod of agreement, looking at Ayden with shining eyes. Although part of her was upset to see him go, part of her was happy that he was starting life all over again. Maybe they can visit each other on Christmas Eve to sing carols together.

Giving her brother a wink, the girl giggled, "You'll look pretty in a pink dress, Ayden!"

"I'm sure he will," Dragain chipped in, before turning to face Nina. "It is late, and I'm sure the kids wouldn't mind sleep for the rest of the night... I know that I'm itching to get back in bed!" She gave a pause before continuing, "Well then, Elana and I better head for home... We'll see you again soon."

With that, she turned and walked away, following the path she took when she had first entered the park. Elana looked back, over her shoulder, and gave Ayden a good bye wave. She hoped that 'soon' will come fast.

Jedah Shade
With a tiny nod of her head and a happy smile, Nina replies to her new extended family, "Thanks all the same. I don't think any of this could have happened without you all."

As eager as she was to volunteer to take the young tale in, the feline had a feeling they would all see each other more than just a little bit. This was going to be the first time another person was depending on her to take care of them, and that was a very big deal.

"E- Elana," the young boy could only utter as she agreed with his new mother about a possible new outfit. "But, I don't want to."

Before any more objections could come up, a light hand rubs over Ayden's bright hair as the blonde woman pouts, "Aw, how stingy."

Blinking her blue gaze up to Dragain again, the other woman nods quickly as she agreed, "I wouldn't mind finding a warm bed, and I'm sure the kids feel the same. It was great meeting you," the cat type gazes down to the other little Tale with a bit more smile. "And you too Elana. Sweet dreams to all of you, and I know we'll see each other again soon."

Still a bit hesitant to leave the only family he had left, the darker Tale puts on a brave smile and waves back to his sister, not wanting her to worry as he started off with his new family. "Bye bye," he calls out lightly as he caught Elana's gaze the last time that night.

Though his attention quickly shifts as he felt himself scooped up into the arms of his new guardian while heading back towards her home. A bit shocked to have been plucked up all of a sudden, the young Tale's gaze falls a little and mutters, "Um, I can walk fine on my own."

"Oh!" With flick of her blonde ears, the cool eyed woman sets him back down again so they could continue together on foot. "If you're sure," you can just lightly hear as they disappeared into the distance.

Journal Entry: New Guest

Okay! Time to roll up my sleeves and get back into this sort of thing. Jeez, how long has it been since I’ve kept any kind of journal? One year? Maybe two? …Right, getting off subject. I’m sure lots of things have happened recently, but that’s not important at the moment. What is important, is that someone has been placed in my care just recently. Who, you might ask?

Alright then, picture this if you will: Ten till eleven PM and I’m sound asleep in my bed when the strangest dream I’ve had in recent memory came to me. You know, one of those, Dr. Suess’s nightmare’s kind of dream. So obviously after waking, I’m in no mood to fall back asleep. What is there to do in the middle of the cold bitter night when you can’t sleep? Donut run of course.

So I was on my way to the nearby shop to quench my hunger for donuts and chocolate milk while contemplating the whole “chosen people” thingy, when I found myself in Barton town park. By some stroke of luck I had gotten lost somewhere along the way. For the moment, my appetite became silenced as I had this overwhelming sensation that I was where I needed to be.

Wouldn’t you know it, but I was only waiting a few moments before a small group of people arrived, like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this. The first of them being the woman called, Dragain who was escorting two little Tall Tales, Elana and Ayden.

Apparently she had a dream similar to my own and was drawn to the park just as much as I had been. So after getting acquainted and a bit of chit chat, Dragain revealed to me her singular purpose. She said, “-I have reason to believe... That you are Ayden's new legal guardian.”

Me. Chosen for him? Even reflecting upon it now, I can still hardly believe it’s possible. The little guy had just lost his author, Heart. So in the blink of an eye he had become an orphan. And just as suddenly he was presented to a complete stranger who was supposed to be his new caretaker? Forget the idea of not believing in myself, how in Gaia did Ayden actually trust in me?

Its times like this, I have to pinch my cheek and have a bit more confidence in myself. So seeing him standing there with his only family left being his sister Elana, whom he was living with, I couldn’t help but see a little of myself in him. After hearing about what had happened to the boy, I didn’t want him to go about living on his own like I had for so many years in my youth.

As nice a lady as Dragain is, it would be impossible for her to care for the both of them on her own. So I decided then and there that I was going to take this young Tale under my protection. Though as I noted earlier, he didn’t exactly jump at the opportunity. The poor kid was so sure that it was his fault that Heart was gone and so afraid that it might happen again.

I’m sure if I’d been in his shoes, I would have felt the same. And I have a hunch he still has that bit of lingering guilt inside of him. But I’m happy that Ayden opened up enough to come home with me that night. I want to do everything I can so that he can start living like a normal kid again. Granted I have about zero experience with children, but I’ll be pinching my cheek now and I promise to give it my best shot.

Its pretty obvious that it’ll take some time adjusting to each other. I tried carrying him home that evening, but Ayden wasn’t having that for one second. He can be a real independent lil’ guy when he wants to be. Though his long night caught right up with him and was nodding off while holding my hand once we got near home. (he probably doesn‘t remember, but I did carry him the rest of the way to bed from just outside of my shop =^,^=)

I was hoping he might rest peacefully once I set him in bed. But it seems our lil’ tale dreams a bit restlessly. I watched him from the bedside for quite a few hours that night, and its become a bit of a habit of mine. I can only start to imagine what kind of far off places he may be seeing with his closed eyes. Whenever Ayden does seem a tad distressed in his dreams, I’ll hum softly and give those white locks of his a gentle brush which seems to calm him a little. It’s strange that I never knew about doing these kinds of things until he was put in my care.

The daytime we’ve spent together has gone about as smoothly as the night time. That being just a little. I know there’s a storm of emotions brewing inside of Ayden what with all that’s happened in recent days, so its not all that easy to approach him. Whenever I try to pry a bit at his thoughts or how he’s feeling, all I’ll get is a generic answer. “I’m not thinking about anything,” or, “I’m not feeling much.” Like he has a little invisible wall hiding the real Ayden from me. But he can’t hide from me forever. Luck and persistence are my fortes.

Maybe its a little awkward just being around me? I’ll have to plan out something soon where we can go out. Some other Tales his own age might keep him better company than me. Well, there’s always Taley-chan who is taking care of Fai-kun. Since all this has happened, I haven’t seen either of them in quite a while. Though it does make me feel a tad guilty, like I’m just trying to pawn Ayden off on the most convenient Tale to try and pull him out of the emotional castle he’s walled himself inside.

Positive! I have to keep positive. Maybe we could find a time to meet, they’ll get together and become like best friends. And go to school together, get accepted into the same college and stay good buddies for the rest of their lives… Like that’d ever happen, but I can always dream. Oh, and of course there’s Ayden’s sister Elana. Perhaps we could visit her, or she might want to visit us for an afternoon. Nothing too, fancy. Just a get together. Right! There’s lots of things I can do.

To the future then. Its just there on the horizon. Even if I have to pull you along kicking and shouting, I’m gonna do my best to try and bring some sunshine back into your heart. And that’s sounding a little too sugary, even for me. But all the same, I’ll do everything I can to take care of you Ayden, so don’t you worry. I’m gonna be here at your side through thick and thin, forever and further. It’s a promise.

Adventure through Time & Space: Ayden's Two Sides

Quote:
Sleeping... It felt like he had been sleeping for so very long. The Tale's memory could barely recall what had happened before falling into his lengthy slumber. Or maybe he didn't wish to remember what had happened. However, the time for resting had passed. Ayden's consciousness slowly grew like a tiny ember spreading into a small fire. Though it seemed like someone's words had stirred him. An urgent and terrified voice had referred to he and his sister, and the young boy wanted to speak out to find out more. As he tried to speak, the words failed to escape from his mouth. That is when the fear began to creep inside him as well. Ayden tried to cry out with all his might, but all he could feel was choking air force its way through, like his throat was being held tight.

Finally the small fire erupted in a sudden blaze as his consciousness snapped awake with a violent jolt through his body. "HELP!!" his voice rang out so clearly now in the suffocating emptiness that surrounded him. The boy was awake now, he was sure of it. Though his open eyes could only see darkness and his ears could only hear silence. The air was so thin and stifling around him as he tried to move about, but he was trapped. The young Tale's panic grew more intense as he struggled in his confinement and pleaded for help. "ELANA, NINA, ANYONE! HELP ME!!"

Thud after thud of his balled up fists pound against the invisible wall in front of him until something finally gave. With a loud crack and creak, a doorway seemed to have been jarred open by his efforts. Giving one last shove forward, the sky opened up in front of him as the lid that had trapped him fell to one side. Cool fresh air washed over his form as he quickly sat up to find himself in a dense forest. Ayden could only sit there in wonder for the moment, trying to figure out exactly where he was and how he had gotten there. Finally pulling himself out of his temporary prison, he sits at its edge to find he was encased in an old pine coffin this whole time.

"Elana!" he calls out once more, still too scared and in shock to move from where he woke. "Nina!" he shouts out once more into the silent wood that refused to answer back. Letting his gaze fall to the dusty ground, the dark Tale swallows to the knot that had found its home in the back of his throat. "I'm all alone again..." he mutters lightly on his breath. "...what did I do this time?" While he didn't notice it right away, the young tail wasn't as alone as he thought. Others began to stir in the near distance, and any hopes for being reunited with his family lay with them.

Quote:
The sea of doubt resting atop the dark Tale's shoulders wasn't given the chance to last for very long. As his pupils quickly shrunk, a shudder ran up Ayden's spine and drags his attention back to his surroundings. However, he couldn't put words to the unexplainable feeling that had rocked his form. It was like he wasn't alone anymore, but it also wasn't comforting at all. Almost as if someone was watching him from a hiding place that he couldn't see with his own eyes.

The woods around the white haired boy seemed to shift a bit as he became more aware of his surroundings. The forest simply seemed frightening in his mind, so upon taking a closer look, it was just an ordinary thicket with the moon hanging overhead. Swallowing to his dry throat, Ayden begins to think, "I promised I wouldn't be such a frady cat anymore. What if Elana's in trouble right now?" That was about all it took for him to find a flicker of courage and drag him up to his feet.

"Sitting alone here won't help. I have to find Elana and get us home again." After the last word, the dark Tale extends his leathery wings out glides off in one direction. His sense of his fellow Tales' energies told him there were some nearby. None of them felt like Elana, but they might have been in contact with her recently. Any little bit of information would help.

Finally there in the distance, Ayden thought he could see someone and the very edge of the forest surrounding him, but the closer he drew, the farther the woods seemed to stretch. It was like someone was playing a cruel game with him, teasing the youth with something just out of his grasp. But this Tale wasn't in the mood for games, and wafted his wings harder against the wind to send him flying forward even faster.

As it seemed that he might reach that gap that bridged his forest world with the next, something landed him right on his feet again. "You shouldn't go near them," a voice echoes lightly to him, though the young Tale can't tell if its from somewhere nearby or from inside his own head. "They don't trust you. They want to hurt you." Looking warrily around him, Ayden doesn't see anyone nearby as he calls out, "Who's there? What is this place?"

"You'll just trouble them if you get too near," it continues to warn without revealing itself.

The sound of the person's voice seemed so familiar but it still made the dark Tale want to shudder. "if- If any of them knows where Elana is, then I have to get to them," he explains and gets ready to sprint off again.

"Then pay close attention as you try to approach them," the mysterious voice advises before the Tale can take his first step. "Their worlds will slowly begin to shrink and converge as you get closer to them." By this point, Ayden was already running towards the other Tales again, all the while, trying to escape the voice that refused to distance itself no matter how hard he ran. "The edges of their worlds will grow darker, and the materials that they are made of will harden into cold stone until you are all trapped together."

The white haired boy did his best to try and ignore the constant babble in his ears but as he watched the nearby island worlds, he could see exactly what the voice had predicted. Slowing his pace to a stop, he couldn't help but wonder if he was really the cause of this. "Once you're trapped with them, they'll turn on you and blame you," the hidden voice continues to whisper into his ear.

"How do you know they'll do that?" Ayden whimpers back as the one chance at finding his sister and home seemed to be slipping through his fingers. The young Tale couldn't just sit there again and just wait to be rescued, but he also couldn't ignore the effect he seemed to have on his surroundings. As his doubt and fear began to creep back in, his forest gradully grows thicker and colder. The voice's words continue to do their job, as bits and pieces of the tiny worlds slowly harden and get eaten away, barely noticable to anyone not paying attention.

Like a dark patch barely noticable from the corner of one's eye, the nightmare Tale had finally fought passed his misgivings and fears to the edge of his world. And while he was closer than ever to the rest of his fellow Tales, he couldn't be further away. From outside his prison you could see his balled up fists pound on an invisible wall and his mouth shouting loudly but no sounds could leak out.

"Everyone - Anyone! Hello!?" his young voice cried desperately to seemingly deaf ears. Ayden had hoped that maybe, just maybe, if he could get close enough to them all then he could get some answers. At least he wouldn't be alone again.

Swallowing to his dry throat, he just rests his forehead to the clear wall, sandwiching his stark white hair in between. It felt like being brushed into someone's crazy painting where you're supposed to be seen and not heard. Giving a half hearted smile to himself, the boy thinks, "at least the voice gave me a rest." The dark skinned Tale continued to watch the other Tales interact with his bright yellow eyes, all be it rather hostile amongst one another.

Perhaps the mysterious other person was as amused with the Tales' antics as much as he was for the time being. Or maybe he had made it up in his head from being so scared about being alone once more. Ayden's train of thought cuts off as he watched one of the Tales brandish his dagger and has it plunge into the space around him. Just then his pupils shrink as it feels like a blow had sunk in just under his ribs to knock him off his feet and drop to his knees.

"Hngh~!" is all he can moan out at the dull ache in his stomach, but the odd thing is that peculiar voice wails out in his ears right along with him. With a tiny thud, the top of his head rests up against the clear wall again and his red tattooed arms wrap around his belly. "wh- what are you cryin' for?" the young one huffs on his labored breath.

No one answers.

"You don't need to cry unless," the nightmare Tale starts to reason to himself. "Unless you're in here with me!" he almost shouts as he presses his palm up to his forehead, feeling it ache lightly as well. "What are you doin' in my head?! Get out!!" he cries and shakes his head about in a childish fit.

The youngster suddenly stops and his lips begin to move beyond his control. "How do you expect me to leave, when I am you?" the strangely familiar voice oozes from his mouth. Rising to his feet once more, the Tale has much more of a sneer on his face with narrowed eyes as he sees the other Tales in their drifting cells.

"Look at them all, just sitting around bickering with one another like there isn't a care in the world." Ayden can feel his lips moves, and these words escape from his throat, but he has almost no control left to do anything to stop it. "If they really want to quarrel then we should give them something to fight about, don't you agree?" His arm begins to rise but tenses and twitches on its way up as the young Tale inside tries his hardest to get control back over his body. Finally it comes up over his head while the trees in the dark forest behind him begin to rustle.

The sound of dry branches creaking and light dripping noises fill the air. A few moments of this pass before a countless number of birds begin to billow out into the night sky. Their gurgling caws and splattering wing flaps can be heard circling all around the dark Tale until he motions his hand forward and a large wave of them begin to fly straight into the barrier. Ayden can only watch helplessy as he feels the intent that this other side of him wishes to do using this murder of crows.

From the dark splotch off in the distance, tiny dots begin to flow out of the small area like bees flying out of a hive. The small swarm appears to grow as they draw in nearer to all of the Tale's island realities. That distinct gurgling caw and spattering wing flaps can gradually be heard from the many gathering birds circling overhead in droves. Smally inky dots fall from their feathers wherever they fly and a foul temper is ready to greet anyone careless enough to get to close to any of them.

Quote:
Watching with an amused grin as the swarm reached out to envelope their prey, Ayden didn't have the chance to enjoy the spectacle as he had been found out. Clenching his new golden gaze tight, the dark Tale was thrown into a short trip that ended in a hard slam against the stone walls of the expansive tower. Gritting his teeth, the white haired boy struggles but finds himself imprisoned once more, just after it seemed he would be able to escape his last confinements. "Accursed old man," he grunts to himself, knowing that he was probably just talking to himself again. "Don't think I'll just sit here, and let you keep using me."

Calming his senses with a long breath, his two eyes remain closed but begins to imagine a third one in his forehead. Before long, his sight is returned to him through one of the inky black crows. Flying in place high above its breatheren, it takes stock of all the chaos that Ayden had rained down since his absense. "Good, they're weakened and in disaray." His flock was slowly thinning though. The nightmare Tale hadn't created them survive the kind of beating that the older Tales were delivering. But those same Tales had strewn about enough of his dark splotches onto the ground to move forward.

"What's that? What're you doin' now?" a tiny voice inside the boy's head calls out. "Quiet. If you ever want to get out of here, then stop pestering me," Ayden mutters to himself. Its then that his wrist moves a little. True his body was pinned down, but his wrist was still free enough and he had sight of the battlefield. His fingers position themselves as if they're holding a brush and begins stroking this way and that. "Now that I have a gateway between me and the other Tales, then I can borrow some energy and escape this old fool's clutches," the dark Tale thinks silently.

From one of the small pools of black ink and crow remains, a bubble pops. Then slowly, something begins to rise from the darkened mess. A small hand pushes its way into the tiny world made for the captured Tales. As the battle rages all around, a child sized ink covered body drags itself out of the tiny pool. Laying there a moment, its unseeing eyes try to seek out any nearby prey as its nostrils gurgle to suck in any scent that had magic about it. Zeroing in on the nearest Tale, it clumsily rises to its feet like a puppet being pulled up on a string and starts its slow walk to catch its victim. All around, other hands and heads begin to appear from the defeated crow corpses to join in on the slow zombie like march in search of living magic.

"Cut that out!" the young Tale cries out from inside his own head. "I dun wanna get free like this!" he continues to protest. "Quiet down," the golden eyed version snaps back. "You'll break my concentration."

Awake

High above Barton Town, the sun shone brightly in the blue sky though its rays didn't seem to pierce the chilly air. Red and orange leaves flutter along the sidewalk with the breeze as a young feline woman pushes a wheelchair into the city park. Bundled up in the seat was her Tale, Ayden, in a deep unwaking sleep. The blonde neko, Nina, had heard from other Tale guardians that it seemed to be affecting many of their children as well which made her somewhat relieved that it wasn't just her youngster. However, it still was a long ways from calming her fears about this unknown sleeping sickness. The white haired Tale had been minding the shop with her, when Nina had seen her boy waver before completely collapsing. Ever since, she continued to stay right beside him and try to bring him back to the conscious world.

Remembering the wheel chair that had been found in the arms shop one day, the blue eyed woman began wheeling the nightmare Tale to all the places they had been together. She hoped that just maybe it might spark something inside that would draw him back to her. Though as time passed, Ayden's complexion seemed to grow worse. Almost as if he were slowly fading away before her very eyes. The cheerfulness that normally followed her everywhere had seemed to drift off right along with the young one's condition. It was now, that hope was almost out of her grasp. This was the feline's last place she could think to take him. Back to the park where the two of them had first met.

"Isn't it nice, Ay-ko?" Nina did her best to sound happy despite the clouds of doubt swirling inside her. "I don't think we've come back here since that night when you were first entrusted to me." She felt almost like tears might come streaming from her eyes as they rolled up to the tree that she had waited at so long ago. "I just wanted to get a cake that night, but I came home with you. I would never have guessed in a million years it would turn out that way."

Parking on that same spot, the cooled wind plucks some of the few remaining leaves from the branches above them both. Resting next to Ayden's blanket wrapped legs, she lays her head in his lap while her milk white fingers clutch onto the fabric. Slowly closing her blue eyes, the neko continues to fight off a sob as she babbles on, "I don't know why I felt like I had to be the one to take care of you. I'm sure anyone else could have done a better job. I mean, just look what I let happen to you."

A knot forms in the back of of the blonde woman's throat, stealing any more words from her as she feels like she will break down right there in the midst of the park. "ay-ko..." she whimpers softly with the blanket bunched up tight in her small balled up fists. All of a sudden her clenched eyes blink open as she feels something rest against her wavy blonde lockes.

"w- whas' wrong mom?" a weak voice calls out to her. It feels like Nina's heart skips a beat as her shocked eyes look up to the cool eyed Tale. All she can do is stare at him for a moment as his half open eyes look curiously back to her.

"a- Ay-ko?" the feline asks while sitting up on her knees to look closer at the freshly woken Tale, wondering if she was the one dreaming now. With his dark hand still resting lightly on her head, Ayden gives a weary but relieved smile and nods faintly. Returning a big smile, Nina could feel the tears build up in the corner of her eyes before she hugged her boy as close as she could. "Ay-ko!!"

"m- mom- thas' embarrsing..." the nightmare Tale tries to protest, using his small amount of strength to wriggle, but he was far too weak to even put up a fight.

"It doesn't matter," the replies with that happy cheerful tone shining in her voice again. "So long as you're okay!"

With a defeated sigh, Ayden rests his gaze again feeling like he had forgotten something very important. Like he had dreamt something that he really should remember but it just wouldn't return to him. Deciding he would just have to remember it later, the young Tale simply enjoys his guardian's warm embrace, like he had been searching for it for a very long time.

Journal Entry: Returned

Well it was quite a holiday season four our tiny shop. I was afraid that Ayden might miss his first Christmas here with that strange sleeping illness that struck so many of the Tales. Such a weird thing to happen, and nobody really knows why. But all the same, my boy snapped out of it all the same. I wouldn't expect anything less from someone being raised in my care!

It still worries me though, since the whole ordeal seems to have sapped a lot of the youngster's strength. Once he's rested up a bit more, we'll try and see if we can't visit his sister or any of the other afflicted Tales. I'm sure it'd help to be around others who have been through similar experiences.

All in all, things turned out pretty nice. I may have not been able to get Ayden the nicest gifts, or been able to afford the best decorations, but I think it put him a little more at ease that this could be a peaceful home for him.

P.S. ^^ On a personal note, after her woke was the first time Ayden called me mom. I squeed silently on the inside. I can only imagine what he might have dreamt about, but I don't even think he notices calling me that.
