Hi!
As some of u know, im from Poland.
i'd like to ask you guys - what's your opinion or whats the general opinion on Poland, and/or Poles living and working abroad ? are we considered drunkards and thieves? or is this only only a stereotype ?

far from it in my work place, the Polish agency workers always work hard, and are far more willing to speak English and be helpful than some other nationalities.
Also other people that i've spoken to, who have Polish people living near them, have all had good things to say about their neighbours.
honestly Paw, in this country the average Pole has a reputation for being a hard worker and a good citizen 3nodding

rofl i say the same thing about Paw lol

on a more serious note, the accusation of taking people's jobs happens over here too, because it's true. But that's not the fault of the average Pole, or any immigrant.
the locals don't want to do the poorly paying manual jobs, but they're quick enough to complain when someone from another country does them.
but the employers are too keen to line their own pockets instead of paying a decent wage and keeping their skilled staff.

i have my own issues about immigration, mainly because there are now far too many immigrants in this country and it's crippling our economy, but again, that's not the fault of the immigrant, Britain has been too lax in letting so many in, other countries are far more stringent, plus once they're here, they get exploited by the employment agencies who take them on.
a lot of our agency workers only get to work 3 days a week, how the hell are you supposed to survive like that on only £5.05 an hour?
is it any wonder that they live 10 people to a house? it's certainly not a life i'd chose, and to be forced into it because of the financial state of their own country is horrible sad

We have a Polish guy, Darek/Dariusz, at the hotel...he is a barman during the night and a maintenance man during the day. He's only a young lad but you couldnt hope to meet a nicer guy...He understands English perfectly (even my dodgy geordie accent, and all other accents from around britain i expect) and speaks it just as well. He tells me he can speak about 5 different languages including Russian and German...

yeah i'd agree with Khione, Poles are hard workers - unlike some of the natives of some countries who come here and are just good for nothing dole scrounging scum who think its ok to do what the f*ck they want, treating the country like their homeland ninja which is still in the middles ages, while all the time trying to turn this country into an islamic state and attempting to blow us all up. evil

that's very true, i can't see any Pole trying to turn Britain devoutly Catholic!
i imagine getting away from the rules over there is a massive relief for many of them sweatdrop

u see...

that 5.05 per hour.. is a small fortune here..
my mum earns (after taking away all the taxes 'n stuff) about ,i dunno, less than 500pounds per month ??? ??
sometimes , during the last week of the month she says "we've got like 30pounds left" ... but we manage to live on that...
my dad earns about 300....
that makes 800 a month... is enough to survive 3nodding 3nodding

life's just strange isn't it?
how the economy of one country can be so very different from another, thanks to my latest pay 'rise' i take home an enormous £888 a month neutral and i have very little left over once all my monthly out-goings are covered.
it's hard for me to imagine that a family of 5 has to survive on that in a different country sweatdrop
but there are people who work in the big cities here, who earn what i do per month in a week, and laugh when they find out how little manual workers like myself earn evil

We have several Polish staff where I work, and they are all very well regarded for their hard working, enthusiastic approach to everything that is put their way. Many of them are over-qualified for the jobs they have with us, too. My stepfather was Latvian, and he had Polish friends, who were anything but drunkards and thieves - the only people I've personally come across like that have been Brits, I regret to say. (OK, there was an ex like that who wasn't British... but his nationality wasn't the problem, he was just mental...) I can't admire highly enough people who come here from another country and get (and keep) jobs, not even using their mother tongue, when it's all I can do sometimes to keep going on my own "home turf". (I'm in Scotland, Kim, just for reference.)
