Practice outload infront of your parents or friends or even just in your room alone. When you catch yourself saying like, pinch your hand to remind yourself not to do that. Sorry if this did diddly to help you. sweatdrop

Think about what you are going to say before saying it, so say it in your head first, and then say it out loud. Easier said than done, I know. sweatdrop

I do that all the time. It's so much easier to type than to talk. The only thing I can do is catch myself doing it and try not to do it in the future, at which I invariably fail. Sorry this isn't more optimistic.

habbet habit
And you could try writing sentences and if you put 'like' in them, punish yourself. Or write slowly and when you'e about to write 'like', stop and think of what will come after it, then write that word down. you could write 'like' on a scrap piece of paper so that you can still write it but not in the essay.

That happens to me as well. I think I might have said like so many times in this one paper I was reading. I'd agree with the practice reading it idea. I force myself to start the whole thing over if I say like.
