The Story of how Isola Di Cristallo's present came about...
It is also the story of Aruka, the only human on the island, and is told from her point of view.

The year is now 3027.

For the past 900 years, I have reincarnated myself 13 times, taught the young me everything she would need to know to continue on, and someday tell my story. I couldn’t tell it too soon, however, I had to wait until the time when my world, a place called Memoria, would need it the most.

That time has come.

When the era was young, about a millennia ago, in the year 2154, I was a researcher for the company called the Merrick Foundation. We were sent into an area of the ocean where people, ships, airplanes… they just disappeared. Our goal was to find out why. We went on a company ship called the Dagger, and once we passed into the area, an island appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. Once we docked, 5 of us, myself included, were told to stay behind to ready the supply chambers for any samples we wished to take back with us. The rest of my team moved into the jungle that was behind the beaches and seemed to stretch for miles, taking up most of the island.

Before long, I looked overboard hearing thundering footsteps coming towards the ship. I thought it was my team I would see running back to us, but it was not. Instead, I saw a fox-like creature coming towards me who stopped just short of the ship, before it looked up at me. Soon following it was the head of our team, telling us it was fine, and the creature was harmless. He came aboard, looking for the explosives we packed for the trip. When I questioned his need for explosives, he told me he had found a cave… a cave that was blocked off by man or beast, and that he wanted to open. Upon leaving us a second time, more creatures came out of the jungle, which I believed to be following the first. When nightfall came, we had heard of nothing, so we set up camp on the shore. We also got a fire going, strong enough to heat the five of us, all the while keeping a close eye on the creatures that were so close, that we had affectionately dubbed ‘Ninfea’. It was not long after midnight when we all awoke, ninfea included, as we looked into the blackness of the jungle. We heard what we had been waiting for: an explosion.

We all sat silent, listening for anything that might happen. Our waiting was not long, for soon we heard shrieks that sounded much like a high-pitched cry, similar to one of the noises ninfea make. The ninfea near us growled low, as if the were going to protect us from the danger. I then heard human screams… the screams of my team. I know from the first, they would all be dead. Somehow I just knew. Suddenly, it was silent as I saw winged ninfea take to the skies, the ones that had been trapped inside the cave my team decided to open. The winged swooped down, picking off the last of us off one by one. By morning, when the sun rose and the vampiric ninfea retreated, myself and one other were the only two left. However, the other survivor died by afternoon. I only lived because there was one winged, different from the rest, who spared and defended me.

For the next seven centuries, I watched the normal ninfea and the vampiric ninfea battle. Not long after it started, I noticed many of the ninfea used powers on each other… almost like magic. Though not all of them had them, not all, but many of the ones without must have trained their whole life because they knew how to fight immensely well. A truce was finally come upon when a vampiric and normal ninfea mated. Out of this came two new beings: the angelics and the demonics. Not long after this introduction, I took my own ninfea, the vampiric that saved me so long ago that I called Khazi, out to the other side of the island for some alone time, where it would be quiet. What I found there, however was far from quiet. Horses lined the shore, and the jungle on the entire backside of the island. I took many of them back with me, leading them through the jungle back to the beach I lived on with Khazi. The introduction of two new types of ninfea, both opposites, and the Equino sparked the fighting, each ninfea and equino choosing their own side.

--------------

Very recently, back in 3013, I got the two sides to come to a standstill when I found a young, dog-like creature who could sway the moods of those around him. He could encite a riot as quickly as he could tone down a mob of angry people, but luckily he had more love in his heart than he had hate, and was very willing to help tone down the ninfea and equino long enough so we could talk some sense into them. We also found that the creature, which I named Luke, could create portals... they led to other worlds, could be created anywhere, and lead to anywhere. Soon, he learned to control where the portals led, but once he mastered this skill, he stopped using it. It seemed he was forever searching for something…

Unfortunatly, Luke was a very curious creature and often opened the portals and stayed away for long periods of time. He recently got back from a three year trip, and now in 3028, he brought with him two new species, and many species of his own kind. We called those like him Marrone, the elegant foxes named Occhio, and the large bears we dubbed Maga. While it was nice to have a diverse set of creatures on the island, it also made the crowd too much for Luke to handle. The fighting started again with the smallest spark: a Maga and Equino were having a dispute over eating territory. And just like that we were drawn back into the war.

My name is Aruka.

I have lived here on this island for the past 900 years… and I want the fighting to stop.
