I hate plates.
Marching cymbals is completely optional.
I don't see the point of them, anyway, the parts could easily be covered in the pit. It's like battery for beginners. rolleyes

not true. marching cymbals have all types of sounds. in the pit, the most we do with cymbals, is hit suspended cymbals. in the line, they do all types of stuff, like sizzles, crashes, bell taps, and flashes. they add flash to the line, while making the music thicker ( if you know what i mean)

Yeah! Plus, when a piece calls for a cymbal to hold for snare...wacha gunna do if the only cymbals you have are in pit?
I played marching cymbals and marching bass, and i decided to go back to marching cymbal because it was more fun, and i liked it better because it adds depth to the music. (Cymbal=Epic)
and its not "battery for Beginners" Have you ever seen DCI Cymbals? or Collage level cymbals? and you call that "Battery For Beginners? You really need to learn what exactly you are talking about before you run your mouth like that. Please... rolleyes

X__Awsome name here__X
Our band is cymbal-less, with the exception of parades but competition is the real deal. Regardless, a better name for pitt is the "Front Ensemble"!!! mrgreen And on that note. GO to the "Front Ensemble" i promise you wont regret it. And you'll realise how amazingly difficult Marimba can become. You know what I want for a parade? I want two people to crab step on either side of the marimba in a parade so I can bust out my skills lol. But then again parade music is way boring. The American composers don't appreciate the quality of a good mallet tune. Well, thats not fair. The Patriotic songs dont. And when they do its all bells. Bells=LAME... They're too small. You cant 4 mallet on bells.... crying

we play field show music in parades to.
and...You should get a float for that...

our marching band is cymbal-less. but we have 2 in drumline... me being one of them
that is exactly how we do things at our school. personally i dont think marching cymbals are usefull at all other than just for looks. that is when they have cool visuals unlike our people

we don't have marching cymbals for the marching show, but for football games and indoor season. We really only have six good pairs.

the drumline has cymbals and i rememer when we didnt have cymbals which was still ok aside when the drumline has to play by ourselves kinda sounds weird w/o cymbals

All our cymbals are in the pit. They don't march on the field, but pit members are assigned either cymbals, the band sign, or decorative flags for parade. Football games, we have them, but I think pit takes care of them still.
