About Basco + History + "You can't be serious? You're a clown, Basco. Do you honestly think I'd waste my life with someone who makes their living off jokes?" Famous last words. Everyone has them before something turns their life completely upside down. For Basco, it was harsh realization that the girl he loved with all his heart cared absolutely nothing about him. Everything around him reminded of her, and the depression drove him to the point of insanity. When he hit rock bottom, he found himself staring at a poster for the traveling Cirque de Coeur Tovre. "Well, if that's what it takes to make her see how fantastic I can be," Basco growled, ripping the poster off as the tears rolled down his cheeks. "I'll become a legend, then she'll never have me." With those last words, Basco sought out the ringleader of the famed circus and embarked on his journey. "Now if I appear to be carefree

In the Center Ring// "Bring in the Clowns" always booms throughout the bigtop before Basco and his comrades tumble and hustle in. Being one of the greenest, Basco is usually subjected to most of the "abuse" the clowns take. With experience as a rodeo clown, Basco is usually called in the off case the horses get too riled up during the show. Backstage// Basco can be found wandering around the grounds playing tricks on the moodier cast members as well as spreading cheer thoroughout the guests. He loves bringing smiles to people's faces, and helping promote the circus.

Well, the first thing that caught my eye was that he's a retired Rodeo Clown. I grew up around rodeos and horses, and my family owns over 30 champion quarterhorses. But I'm a bit ... confused. Rodeo Clowns distract bulls, when it comes to bronc riding or anything they're usually just in there for the visuals. When horses get riled up they don't really need someone to ... Do what a Rodeo Clown does. The Rodeo Clown's job is to make comedy and when a bull gets out of control during a ride he distracts the bull from the rider to keep him from being trampled or killed. Technically they have little to no interaction with the horses during a show, besides maybe riding them.
Now, Rodeo Clowns can have lots of interaction with horses, but generally not during a rodeo. It'd make sense if he were a horseback acrobat, those are shown during intervals between events. But acrobats aren't clowns, they're gymnastic performers on animals really, so you'd have to figure that out. Rodeo Clowns aren't the acrobats either, because they're pretty much always needed for commentary, preparation, or comedy. It's NOT impossible though to combine the two if you want to find a way.
Your history is pretty bare-boned as well. I think I understand a woman left him because he wasn't ambitious enough, but that's almost all there is. How did he become a jokester? Why does he enjoy it? It seems that his motivation for joining the Cirque might be revenge in a sort of way? What is his background like, or even the history of his relationship with the woman?
There's also next to nothing about his personality, and that's extremely important ... What changes will he be going through talent or skill-wise in the Cirque? This character has a huge potential, but I've gotta ask, where's the Beef?

Okay, this may seem a little harsh, but I'm trying to give you some useful things:
What bugs me about this character is that there is nothing to him. I mean, other then the girl leaving him, the guy has no history. I'm not saying tell us about everything that's ever happened to him, but I know that he didn't just pop out of a cocoon one day fully formed. Or maybe he did. You haven't given any world information! It's fine and dandy that he's a catboy, but why is he a catboy? Don't just make him have cat ears and a tail to make him look pretty. Come up with a world and a story to make it make sense!
So, so far:
- Give him a history! Tell us about his life growing up. What's his family like? How's his relationship with his mother? Your start is great, but it's not good enough! As far as I can tell, he's a really flat character. His only motivation is this girl spurning him. Nothing's happened to him! Unless he was born at the cirque du coeur torve (doubtful), he had to have a life before it that made him who he is.
-Flesh out the world he comes from. I mean, I love catpeople as much as the next person, but I'd want to know why he's like that. If the people from his world evolved from felines rather than apes, I think he'd be far more catlike than you've made him. Maybe a more rounded, feline face, claws, legs like a cat? Make it make sense. If you're going to do something, go all out with it. Do whatever you can to make Basco a flesh and blood character. Make him something believable. Don't just make him a generic catboy.
Also, his personality is really bare bones. I mean, the description you've given could describe almost anyone. Please, please, please consider going through and fleshing it out. How does he react to certain situations? Anything he can't stand? Does he have any real quirks? Details, details, details! You've got such an interesting character, but the concept has no meat to it!
Remember that when you're making a quest thread, it's a place to organize your thoughts so that when a flatsale comes around, you know everything there is to know about your character and can really sell it to the judges. So go ahead and post everything there is to know about Basco. And I mean everything. Put it all out for critique so that you can keep improving him. And even if you think it's perfect, keep getting second opinions! Maybe there's something that seems off that you haven't noticed.
