I get that problem quite frequently. Since this is just NaNo you can probably just go with it and try to steer the plot back into it's original direction. In my story, I was supposed to place more emphasis on the main character in the beginning but another character jumped in and took the reins for a while. I'm just going to go with it cause I'm a slow typer.

I'm pretty sure my plot sucks, mostly because there isn't any. xd I'm really just making things up as I go along and trying to sift in my brain for an idea of how to connect to the major plot points together for the whole "good v. evil" bit. It's still not coming to me so my main character hasn't even announced their intentions. xP

I literally came up with my "finalized" plot two hours before NaNo started, and I did that by smashing two story ideas together with a little literary duct tape, consequences be dammned. I'm still working on it as I type. So I don't think sudden plot changes are that big a deal.

I guess my basic solution would be- DON'T REREAD. xD I never let myself reread my writings because I'll get angry at myself and start trying to fix them. So I'm just charging blindly ahead....

Yeah, I formed a basic idea and used a lot of autobiographical stuff to save from having to come up with a complicated plot. It is only a month, and it is only 50,000 words, after all, so a great fantasy epic of warring space families wasn't the best choice for NaNo . . . but if you feel a flow of any sort, just go with it! Just type and at the end of the month, THEN you can look back . . .

At least, that's my plan . . .

Yeah. My plot sucks. I realized a couple days ago that one of my character was an emo kid who's father was evil and wanted to take over the world. That's really over done, so I changed it to his teacher at school. Which works better because he's at a boarding school.

My plot... is extremely long and I don't really like it, nor do I think it's particularly good. But, it is a plot, and I've already started, so I'm stick with it for NaNo.

I've already decided how I'll bypass the need for a plot next year. I'll do erotic fiction. xD Nah, I'm kidding, even if I do erotic fiction I'll put a plot in, for the sake of writing.

I realised that my plot's got some horrible cliches in it. It's got the girl with magic powers who runs away from home, it's got the Friendly Thief, it has an Evil Demon Guy who usurps the throne, it even has an amulet of power!

But I still like it ninja

Better cliche than lacking. My plot, or lack there of, is too weird for me to follow, or find subplots to throw in, or to figure out at all. And this exact same thing happned last year gonk

The plot for my fanfiction has already gone down hill. It's only chapter three so I have time to bring it around. Hopefully the middle and end will actually cooperate.

EDIT: I scrapped the plot and started another one. Hopefully this one will last 50,000 words.

I can't even say if I have a plot. There's... something happening, but it's all very weird. I try not to read what I have already, there's just a vast amount of words I need to get written and I don't have the time to think about the plot...

I have another 45766 words to go! How's this supposed to work? gonk

Well, it's NaNo, so don't worry about editing, just write! And remember, December is NaNoFiMo and there's NaNoEdMo, too. (I lost the link to it, though!) 3nodding

The truth is though, I completely agree that it's hard. Often I'm forced to take unwanted breaks from my writing and I kinda have to reread the last few pages so I can re-channel my muse. Resisiting the temptation to get caught up in editing is incredibly hard!

well my plot took some time i mean a whole nother world in midevil timesand japanese mythology it gets kinda hard but i wound up rewriting it three times im not saying you should rewrite it but overveiw it and read it in your head if you think something would sound better in certain spots of the book insert them i think i did that twice and make up a few goofy words and somehow define them in the text

Definitely. Rereading is the most surefire way of antagonizing your inner editor. I tell you, it's just the worst thing... when I reread mine, I have to silence my inner editor with massive amounts of sugar, mostly chocolate.
