Yes, many religions do have strict codes of conduct and say that if you don't follow it you're going to Hell. Many others still do not believe in Hell, in some they may not even believe in Heaven. God states clearly in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (and the entire New Testement) that while He loves us more than life, if we do not accept Jesus christ as our lord and savior we will go to Hell. Even though it pains God dearly when that happenes. God strikes down any thought of going to Heaven by good deeds alone, Romans 3: 23- For we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Yet we will go to Heaven if we, "Believe with your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, then you will be saved. For we believe in our hearts and so we are made right, we confess with our mouth and so we are saved." -Romans 10:9-10.
