Tennant isn't a real Doctor! scream
Anyway, I noticed this as soon as I saw the...err...Tennant on Doctor Who.

I thought there was a rule called no Doctor bashing. Every person brings something new and interesting to the role of the Doctor and if you don't like it then you've got to stfu and eat your jelly babies like a good little boy and be quiet before I go get the David Tennant defenders group here >.> or worse...the Colin Baker one o.o

I second that. Thank you, DV.
I liked the CB defenders group remark. wink

Yeah well... no Doctor Bashing you lot. I'm tired an grouchy, it's ten minutes to midnight and I trying to write a film essay before dawn... so keep the noise down. Doctors make a horrible yelping sound when they're bashed.

Good God, I thought we were beyond the days of "Doctor bashing", but I suppose we're not.

Look - David Tennet IS the Doctor, just as the previous 9 guys before him were also the Doctor.

This is nothing new. Ever since the days when William Hartnell unexpectedly regenerated into Patrick troughton there have always been fans who hated the change and "bashed" the new Doctor.

When Jon Pertwee replaced Patrick Troughton, the response was generally, "He's a slapstick comedian! That's not the Doctor!" Then everyone got used to him, and several years later he left, and everyoine wanted to know who the hippie-looking guy was with the stupid-looking scarf. That, of course, was the great Tom Baker who to this day represents the Doctor in the minds of a majority of people, including those who are not even fans of the show. And when Tom Baker left, you can't imagine the uproar and the outcry when he was replaced by Peter Davison.

Peter Davison was admittedlky an squired taste, but when he left, huge numbers of fans went into open rebellion over Colin Baker. And when he left, a wall of rejection just went up around the whole series. Noit, mind you, becfause anything was wrong with Sylvester McCoy, but because the whole show was seen to be in trouble. And when Paul McGann replaced him, there was a heartfelt sigh of sorrow.

Now move on to modern times. Christoipher Eccleston set a lot of people on edge because he just didn't seem to fiut the mold and Paul McGann wasn't even given a regeneration scene. At least Colin Baker to Sylvester McCoy was a halfway regeneration, but this time we had no explanations given.

And now it has happened again. David Tennant has come along, just as we were getting accustomed to Eccleston, and had come to like him. He looks even less like the Doctor than previous actors, because he's missing the one constant that all 9 previous Doctors have had: piercing blue eyes - like a fingerprint that never changes. He has no particularly distinct preference in clothing. To some fans, these seemingly-minor issues could be very disturbing.

But for those who don't like David Tennent, never fear - with the passage of time, you will. I didn't like peter Davison at first, but I appreciate him now. I didn't like Christopher Eccleston at first, but I really like him now. So get over it and go with the flow.

As usual, the Doctor will prevail.

He always does.

They can get very loud and abusive.

So, when are we going to see some kind of program called "The Ten Doctors" ? More fun to watch them bash each other.

Sadly, that's not likely to happen, bearing in mind that William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee have all passed on. Oh, and well said about people's reaction eveery time there is a new Doctor!

Well, realistically, no - you can't make a show with dead actors. As you say, the first three are dead, Tom Baker is white-haired and in his 70s, and Peter Davison & Colin Baker look their ages, too.

But...

When they filmed "The Five Doctors", they simply recast a look-alike for the first Doctor. While it is obviously not the perfect answer, there are many good celebrity look-alikes, and I have no doubt good "replacements' coule be found for a special Christmas story or something, where the current Doctor manages to cross himself in time (again) and all ten of them could have the usual "b***h fest" in the TARDIS or elsewhere. But bringing back lots of old companions was not such a good idea in "five Dooctors", and not necessary. It only really worked in "Two Doctors", and as you'll remember there were none at all in "Three Doctors". I think Doctors 7, 8 and 9 still look enough like "themselves" to have the original actors.

Just a thought.

They could find great voice impersonators for the deceased actors and have them just appear through audio messages on the TARDIS console (argueing constantly) and the same for any actors who felt themselves too old.

Or - as a kind of cheat - you could have the older personalities take over the latest incarnation. Forcing him to act and dress as they did. Dunno whether that would be terrible but it's another option.

And on a totally unrelated note: Patrick Troughton's grandson said in an interview that he'd love to play a baddie in Doctor Who! xd I'd give anything to see that - he's great, especially when evil! And it's the next best thing to PT coming back.

He could play the villian in our excellent new Ten Doctors episode...

Colin Baker fans will like this post wink

I've seen the light! whee

Speaking of Doctor bashing, I've finally seen the Trial of a Time Lord and my god that was awsome! Colin Baker was a whole lot better than what I first thought when I saw the first episode. I loved that part where he called Peri Sarah Jane LOL!

Doctor: Sarah Jane...
Peri: It's Peri

Doctor: I don't like carrot juice!

but yes, I wanna make a multiple Doctor video game and I wanna see them do a multiple Doctor episode.

I wish I could be in the UK for Christmas ;_; I wanna see the Runaway Bride!

BBC America is just not showing the 9th Doctor's episodes!
Don't think they'll show Torchwood in the US though >.> but I'm glad I am able to see it. I'll just download the episodes from the BBC site of the new season before it comes onto dvd.

ITs kinda funny, thought because in the new Doctor Who episodes with the Cybermen, both David Tennant and the guy who played Barty Crouch Senior was in the episodes.

Too bad they never really came "face to face". That would have been brilliant. Although most older Doctor Who fans might not get the reference. I figured out who it was just from the first few seconds of voice alone. It's like Alan Rickman's voice: quite distinct and hard to forget. ^^ heart heart
