I recently got invited to go to a private server, and I'm not sure if I should. Not as many people, only the nms spawn during beseiged, leevling is 10X faster, you can start off at lvl 75, theres no gilsellers or buyers, but not as many people, and you have to download a lovly patch.
I'm not new to private servers, play WoW, RF, yogurting on them, but a private server for a game I also play on a public one? Kinda not sure about it since I really don't want my stuff being leaked out.
I probably won't join, considering it would probably take all my time since I already have sky, dynamis and meriting stuff to do on siren.
So discuss:
Weird people who have weird idias

The fact there's so much to do in ffxi and not enough time
Why exp gain should be faster

ive tried private servers for RO myself at one point, i found i quickly got bored with it because i was able to gain levels quickly and get whatever i wanted. It took the excitment right out of the game :/
I personally wouldnt do it if you love the game as is, i personally find it alot more fun to get things at a personal gain not because some one jacked up the odds. *shrug*

I wasn't aware that private servers existed in FFXI seeing as well... 99% of the whole game is kept server-side and so many forumlas are secret. They would have to do so much of the work based on guessing. It just wouldn't be nearly the same. Even so, wheres the challange at starting at 75? In my opinion it would be silly to join a private server where the community is only 1/1000th the size and everyone is 75, and if your friends with the admin then theres even less fun when NMs pop on request and challange is completely dumbed down.

it's pretty much the same as normal servers, except X10 everything, including nm drops. and you only get 1 lvl 75 job when you start, and most people who play on it have chars on the public ones that are 75 on the job anyways, and macro's have more spaces, something I just found out about and love. 10 spaces instead of 6! woot! All the equip swaps I want. *has found another excuse to ditch sky without getting in trouble*

Drowningwaters and macro's have more spaces, something I just found out about and love. 10 spaces instead of 6! woot! I don't get it. 6 macro spaces? 10 macro spaces? Surely each macro pallet has 20 spaces, and there are 10 pallets, unless this is a ps2-related thing i don't know about :/ ?

are you sure its not just a scam to get your account info and hack your account? >_>;
FFXI has "BETA" servers but i don't see why they would be recruiting for them since they're pretty much done with new things for FFXI.

The only sign of a Private Server I have read about for Final Fantasy XI is the ongoing:
ProjectXI
(look it up if your interested, i don't have the link on hand.)
The farthest they have gotten is being able to run the game with:
-out multiplayer.
-out NPCs.
-no battle systems.
-no zoning.
Basically everything you can think of except for having a character, walking around in one zone...
If there was a private server, full-up coming out for FFXI it would at least take one or two more years minimally.

Who invited you? one of my freinds, besides, I have 3 computers which are capable of playing ffxi, using another one for the private one, it's pretty well running, except most people are japanese. Dun mind though, after you compare real ffxi AH to that AH, you figure out what all the little squigles are. Sad thing is, server is down during NA time mostly, which kinda sucks, not on it as much as public since people I understand are there, and sky....and dynamis, and all the other endgame goodies.
