Zambimaru I red an article in a magazine that said the stingray was covered in sand and Steve wanted to get a closer look at it, so he touched it a little to get it to come out and that’s what made it sting him. But I’m not sure if that’s the truth. That's not how I imagined it.
For some reason, ever since I first heard of how he died I'd formed an image of the whole event in my head. They say the bullray was gliding a few feet over the reef floor, and Steve swam about that distance above it. Eventually it came to a rock and felt surrounded - as Shiloh said - and shot its tail up at him. It pierced his chest, he ripped it out, the ray swam away, and up he floated.
That last part didn't work itself into my memory for awhile, since I didn't hear all of it at once. It's strange how clearly I can see it when I try - the footage was never shown to be, but it's as if it was right there on my television screen. I guess I really cared about it.

I've herd several explanations about what happend so I don't know what to belive. The one about him touching it and then getting stung would make more scense from my expiercence(i've swam with rays in the past) but I'm still not sure.

When'd you join? There's a chance I approved your membership and didn't notice. If so, welcome! If not...oops.

coolcheese wat is this sum kinda anti-stingray thread rofl No, actually.
We're discussing the death of Steve Irwin, not expressing our hate for stingrays - there's no hate to express, anyway. What happened to him was a freak incident, and it's clear that the ray only reacted in the way it saw most fit - that was to attack and flee. I, personally, don't blame the stringray. But I don't blame Steve either.
