Kadaj as a main character? well whatever floats your boat. As much as I would like to say Cloud is irreplaceable as a main character, Vincent is a good candidate too. It's obvious cause he's already had his own game. He has tons of back story and tons of angst to boot. He's mysterious and everyone wants to know whats behind that closed personality. You keep playing hoping you get a glimpse of what Vincent is really like and what drives him. He has the sort of inner turmoil that we all want to watch and feel .

As for up to date, i Say Sephiroth, they have a Vincent game out and Cloud also, But if i had to choose for before Dirge of Cerberus. I would say Vincent most definantly

Sephiroth wouldn't make a good main char since he is the main villan of the story the story would fall apart. Vinecnet in my opinion wouldn't have made a good candiate either you would have to alter the story line so much if it was vincent. An Zack Well the reason cloud became a mercenary and came to midgaar at all is because of his best friend zack. so he wouldn't either. Tifa, maybe...but then again there is the promise and the reason why cloud helped tifa and the reason why she didn't die nor zack, Yes zack didn't die in the battle in the reactor. He died after being shot more then a thousand times while he protected his freind cloud.. So there really can only be one main char at the moment. An that is the one and only Cloud Strife. Now if they made a prequel of sephiroth's story that would be awesome.
