He found himself returning to the place he'd visited his first day back into the mortal world. Ukali had hoped that perhaps he'd come upon Ushukuru; he'd grown fond of the young cub even in just the short time he'd had to speak with him. One thing was for certain; Ushu had not seen the last of him. At least not if Ukali had anything to say or do about it. Eventually, whether it was two days from now or two moons, Ukali would seek him out again.

For now, though, Ushu wasn't here, and Ukali wasn't going to go deeper into the Pridelands to go look for him. While he'd never met the god Ushukuru had spoken of during his last visit, he had no wish to. Sense told him to stay far enough away that he wouldn't risk an unintended encounter with Tanaka; while he wasn't afraid by any means, or worried, neither was he in the habit of stupidly seeking out a confrontation before he learned more.

The lioness moved through the taller grasses at the border of the pridelands, approaching the familiar figure of her ex-lover in the distance. She'd sensed him from overhead, and couldn't believe her eyes at first. Who knew that Ukali was still actively out and about these days? Not that she could talk, she'd been in hibernation for fifty years.

Still, she couldn't pass up the chance to speak to the father of her girls again, no matter how poorly they'd ended things. A small smile was on her maw and a flirt was in her tone as she drew nearer.

"Hey handsome... don't look so serious, it's a beautiful day."

So deep he had been in his musings that he hadn't bothered to keep his senses alert, supernatural or otherwise. When she approached, he turned at the sound of moving grass, and then felt her presence.

It was a good thing he sensed her before he saw her; he had a split second to regain control of his reaction and outward expression.

"Yes, it is." He allowed a small smile, his green eyes roaming briefly over her familiar form, the unique twin flames that formed her wings, her pelt pattern, her violet eyes. "Ukilia... It's nice to see you again." He meant it in all sincerity; he was truly happy to see her, if taken by suprise.

Ukilia purred softly in greeting as she continued with her lazy smile, only stopping in her slow approach when she had reached his side. At that point she eased down to sit on her haunches, the warm but harmless flames hovering over her back. He was still just as handsome as the day they'd met, the very embodiment of strength, outwardly and in.

"How've you been, Ukali...?" She asked softly, usual playfulness drastically subdued for the time being.

He had to remind himself to remain where he was, or he might have gotten up to nuzzle against her in greeting. Oddly enough his mood didn't dampen; while Ukilia's presence brought back strong memories and emotions of the past, time and experience had taught him to put those feelings aside.

"I've been well," he answered honestly. "What about you? And what brings you here?"

"I've been... same old, same old." She admitted, without a trace of regret, however. Her first day back had been spent with the god of pleasure, and since then she'd met a few others, but she was especially glad to see Ukali again. Her feelings for him hadn't changed even in all these hundreds of years... But so long as there was that barrier between them, they couldn't...

"I took a bit of a nap for fifty years or so, I thought I would refamiliarize myself with things. It seems that not much has actually managed to change though, surprising given how fickle mortals tend to be."

"The same for me, actually," Ukali commented. "Though instead of sleeping, I just... stayed out of mortal affairs for a while, kept to myself. Finally decided it was time I come out of 'hiding' again."

Interesting that their timing was so in sync with each other, assuming Ukilia had returned to the mortal world around the same time Ukali had.

"It seems that not much has changed in the years that we've been away..."

Her tone was soft, eye contact held... the subtle underlying meaning in her words could be taken either way, though there was affection in her eyes however soft. Her feelings hadn't changed, and she still cared about the diety of strength that sat beside her, but could things be that way again? No, not so long as there remained those things unspoken.

He nodded, not really knowing how to respond. He finally settled on a simple "No," and turned to view the Pridelands that spread out before them as far as the eye could see.

He still cared about her as well, of course. He had never stopped. Anger and sadness had blinded him for a while, but as with everything else, he'd learned to put it aside.

A simple answer... she should have expected nothing more, yet somehow she did. She'd hoped his answer would give her some insight.......... did he still care?

Her weight slowly slid forward for the female to lay down, stretching her legs out and resting her head atop them.

"... I've seen Kiva... did you know we're grandparents now?"

The keeper of strength jerked his head around at that, truly startled. "...We are?"

That made the plan of seeing Kiva jump from "sometime soon" to "as soon as possible" on his priorities list. He folded his forelegs beneath him to mirror Ukilia and readjusted a wing to lay more comfortably on his back.

As happy as he was to hear this news, he showed a smile, and that was it. Things were still... awkward, with Ukilia, and he didn't want to make the situation any more so. "She's still with the Unity Walkers, right? I'll have to find her."

"Mm... the pride is flourishing. And she birthed two beautiful girls and a handsome little boy..."

I miss the days when she and her sister were still children themselves.

She realized. "She'll be happy to see you again." Was what she said.
