I would have to say The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I read the French version first, and I kind of enjoy that one more, but the message was still the same for me. Being a big traveller, it taught me valuable lessons about making friends and how to deal with being away from them. It also taught me how to be responsible, how not to judge, and that my friends are always with me. I love that book, and I read it first in French as well.
Although I did that when I was very young, I remember getting my mother to translate but I didn't quite get the message.
When I came back to read it a few years later it made sense to me.
One of the books that touched me was Saffy's Angel, and it was something I ordered at a scholastic book fair when I was somewhere in grade two or three.
I still remember it to this day, even though my copy is gone.
And another book that I used to steal from my step-brother, Sang Spell.
One I actually stole from my library in fifth or sixth grade I still have with me.
A Corner of the Universe, which I re-read often.
I also must agree with Red Kasei for MoaG, but nowadays it's a lot harder to find books that touch me.
I was very pleased when Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and Peony In Love had this affect on me, but since then nothing really remarkable has come along in the form of books.
