ok, all the time i hear about some people being shia and doing things a little differently to those who are called sunni.
what is the difference between shias and sunnis? what makes them who they are?

Well, Shia's believe that Imam Ali was the man who lead Islam after Prophet(peace be upon him) Muhammad, and Sunni believe some other man was supposed to lead Islam after Prophet Muhammad9peace be upon him). That's the main difference, but there are a lot of other little things that are different about them. Like Shia pray with a morgh(?sp?), and Sunni don't. It's all really complicated. But what's really sad is that they've been killing each other because of these differences since the death of Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him).

I am suni and my best friend is shi'a. we are slowly discovering the differences between the two.

Shias are muslims who believe that Imam Ali {as} is the succesor of Prophet Muhammad (saw)
Sunnis say that it was Abu Bkkr

My dad is Shia and my Mum is Sunni
so im sushi...
but anyways i dont believe in either. Im a Muslim and my beliefs are with Allah, yes profet mohamed should be repected, but he is the messenger and allah is great. We shouldn't change our selves for anyone but Allah.
It turning into the difference between Catholic and Protastant, which i personally think is extremely appaling. it was so obvious they made protastant an Illeagal religion and they just do it to be religious and lazy at the same time. (compared to catholic)
So why make the same mistake...But why are muslims killing each other...let alone just killing. Isn't Haram to kill out of hate?
thats why i believe those people and other so called "Muslims" aren't actually being Islamic. They are tottaly disregarding the Teachings of the Quran.

Shias and Sunnis...
Sunnis are simply Muslims who believe that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was the last Prophet. And indeed he was <333
Shias are Muslims who believe that Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) nephew, Ali was the last Prophet.
I hope I got that right. And um, Shias in countries such as Iraq, attach blades to chains and swing it around their backs, puncturing and cutting their flesh to mourn the death of Ali? I forgot who they mourn for at that time. Sunnis do not do this.
And can I say, that when Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) died, a lot of crazy crap began to happen =D

If America never booted their asses into Iraq, then 14-year old girls wouldn't be raped and killed with their families. It's unbelievable that Muslims along time ago had the NERVE to edit the Quran and place Ali as the Prophet when he wasn't. A lot of stupid crap really did happen when Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) died.

Well yeah, it's confusing after all, but I think that Muslims are all muslims, I'm a sunni anywayz but I don't care, but the shia add something that in arabic called ( bed'a ) as we sunni think, like the calling for the prayer is defferent from sunni to shia. bed'a is something you add and I think I don't know only a little bit at this subject too.
I hope people don't get touched to that... because we are always together insha'lah!

I'm not a member here, But I think you should research better on your history before making Claims... Sunni's follow Hadith's and The Qur'an, fair enough. Shia's on the other hand, Do the same but some words sunni's claim shia's disagree with, thats for HADITH'S. As regards with this "Ali was the prophet" Crap your talkin about. We (I myself am a Shia) regard Imam Ali (PBUH) as The Secondly Most DIVINE person AFTER Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Who ever taught you other wise is WIDELY Based against Shia. Shia's don't hurt themselves so much as to call it Haram, They mourn over the death of the PROPHET MUHAMMAD'S GRANDSON HUSAYN! (PBUT) as he SACRIFICED himself to save Islam from the Tyranny of Yazid and the Caliph. Also, Shia's NEVER Edited the Quran in ANY way, they just believe certain parts said by Sunni's are with different meanings to get the point across. Please Research before assuming next time. sad

Assalamu Alaikum Shi'ism and Islam are very different things. Sure, there are similarities and the like, but a political difference turn into a whole other sect and soon a new religion. Let's educate ourselves.
