So about a week ago our director rearranged us in our sections to get the blend right. I hate the spot I'm in. The person to my left, no problems, but the person to my right is driving me nuts! Not only does she smell funny, but she's really bad. I can always just barely hear her whispering out of my right ear like a measure behind the whole soprano section, so I keep hearing this hissing noise because all I can hear is that weird whisper sound in my right ear. It drives me insane! gonk crying It's like standing next to a gas leak! It's a weird, funny smelling, hissing sound!

I'm a bass, and my freshman year in Region choir, our director had the crazy idea of intermingling all the parts, so every bass was between two altos, and every tenor between two sopranos.... to my right I had the loudest Alto in her section.... I COULDN"T STAY ON MYPART FOR NOTHING with this loud a** woman right in my ear....

LiannaMythre Not only does she smell funny, It's like standing next to a gas leak! It's a weird, funny smelling, hissing sound! Hehe, great simile. 4laugh And my director did the same thing (for the putting tenors by sops, etc) but only for one day, and that was to see if we could sing our part while listening to what else was going on. Only for one song.

In my church choir, my sister always wound up standing next to this one woman. Her voice was airy as anything, and when she went to high notes, she always went sharp!

In one of my choirs at school, I am closest to the middle in the top row of Altos (right next to the Basses) and I stand next to THE most tone deaf boy I have ever known. I can definitely sing without being distracted by him, but it can drive me insane sometimes. His range is about five notes and if it his part goes any lower or any higher than those five notes, he is completely lost, but sings along anyway, hoping he'll blend in. Of course, he sticks out like a soar thumb. I just wanna drag him to a piano and force him to match some notes. Grraaarrrrr. ♥

I'm directly behind our tenor, and although I can stay on for the most part, sometimes I catch myself trying to harmonize and just singing his note an octave above. It's interesting.
And I know what you mean. The people next to me are absolutely lost if I don't sing, so they're quiet and try to match my voice even when they sing a different part. Which is really fun when I screw up as in above. I did that all today for our ooo's on Seasons of Love. It was oddly exhilarating.
Back to the point! I'm sorry Lianna, that really stinks (no pun intended). Is there any way for you to position yourself in front of her a bit, or behind her a bit, so that she's not quite so much in your ear?

I wish I had some good advice to give, but the only thing I can say is that sucks. I hope you get moved or something soon.
