My friend and I were bookshop browsing when she said something about how she wanted to start reading poetry but doesn't know where to start. So, I was wondering if maybe there was a book out there that's got a variety of poems and poets that's good for a newcomer to poetry. Anyone know of one?

I would first see what kind of poetry she generally likes (as in modern, classical, etc) and find her an appropriate anthology.

Well, she doesn't read poetry at all so I, or she for that matter, has no idea what she's into, hence me looking for a book with different sorts of poems. haha.

Does your school/community center put out a poetry collection? I find these have a nice variety, except for classical.
I'd suggest finding a few poems on the internet and just printing them out. None of the anthologies I've read have had that broad of a selection.
