Save the Homeland took a different approach. Instead of restoring a decrepit farm in order to save the town in a 3 year time limit, you instead had one year and nine possible ways to save your town. Finishing one ending would send you back to to Spring Day 2, with all your upgrades, money, animals, and crops intact. Let the discussion for Save the Homeland begin! ^_^

It's really a shame that this one is underrated. It had wonderful potential, and the graphics used were lovely.
Sadly, the short play time of one year, the low amount of house upgrades, and the lack of marriage pulled the game downhill. D:
I'd love to see a PS2 Harvest Moon though, that had graphics like this and didn't lag (I'm looking at you, AWL: SE.), just with marriage and a kid.

I'd love to see a game like that as well. 3nodding I was really happy to see the cast of characters from StH used in Magical Melody. The characters are so intriguing, and I was thrilled that they got the chance to be involved in a good game. StH really wasn't all that bad, it was just simple. VERY simple. sweatdrop I found that while it doesn't measure up to the other games in the series, it is still very fun and worth playing, especially seems how you can find it Used for under $20. 3nodding It's a real "pick-up-and-play" Harvest Moon, and so long as you wander around town a bit, you can earn the endings no problem, especially since the manual gives you hints on how to get started. wink I'm currently trying to earn all the endings. So far I've earned The Azure Swallowtail and The Bluebird. Right now I think I'm working on The Cake Contest (because I finally got Golden Eggs and Golden Milk whee ) and then I may do The Goddess Dress next. 4laugh

Ah, fond memories. StH was the first Harvest Moon game I understood.
~Flashback of BtN~
Me: "Mom? Why are my sheep dying?"
Mom: "How did the chickens get sick!?"
~End of Flashback~
Moral of that flashback, never ask your mom how to play Harvest Moon unless she really knows how.
~Thought of the Future~
My Kid: "Mom? What do I do first?" *ish playing a futuristic Harvest Moon (NOT Innocent Life)*
Me: "Well, first, buy some seeds. Turnips are best to start off with, though I'd also get something that can be harvested more than once. Then, when you've racked up enough money, get yourself a chicken."
~End of Thought~
Heheh, it was funny how I was too young to see that you had to feed your animals and not put them out in the rain or at night without your dog's protection.
Anyway, I liked StH because it helped me understand HM better (though a sheep woulda been nice! stressed ) and it was actually easy enough to get me going. Except for the fact that I could only get one ending to happen. (Still young then. blaugh ) I tried playing it again this year, but the dumb Swallowtail ending cut my horse's training short, so now I can't compete in the horse race! cry

I played this game at my friend's house but none of us really got the concept of the game. We were really young and didn't look at the manual. I only started to save the homeland near the end of the game and I didn't finish. It sucked. But I still got to keep all of my animals ^^

I loved playing Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland~ The only thing I didn't like was how you were limited to what you could do and after 1 year you would have to start over... (well, kinda... At least I didn't have to go through the trouble of getting new animals. sweatdrop ) I didn't mind that you couldn't get married in the game, but having to start over and meet everyone again was kinda..... weird eek Deja Vu!!!! xd
