~ Slipping Through the Cracks: Quest part 2~
What had started as a simple game of tag between a mother and a rambunctious son, had suddenly turned into what seemed to be a fight between life and death.
The two had been running around the house while the other children were out with Raziel. (Elazu had claimed of not feeling well when they had all left for the mall, so Risika stayed home with him. And as most random child illnesses do, it disappeared within a few hours of silence and boredom, (magical cures!), and it helped that his older brother, whom he had grown attached to, had stayed home aswell. At this particular time in the game, Elazu was it and Risika was fleeing the "plagued" child. Dodging the chairs and sofas that their living room mainly consisted of, Risika finally seemed to be corned by the coffee table.
Elazu stood in front of his mother, grinning evily as his tail flicked madly behind him. He had her now! His emerald eyes flicked around their surrounding area, making sure there was no escape for his sly mother. The coffee table was now where they made their stand, and the only obvious escape route seemed to be for her to run straight at him since a sofa and love seat blocked her on both sides, and of course there was the coffee table to her back. BUt he had forgotten how elusive his mother was, and before he even knew it, she was under the coffee table, crawling as fast as she could to the other side, and to freedom.
The shadow child let out a disgruntled," Hey!" and soon dove after her, sliding on the hardwood floors and under the coffee table, but he did not make it all the way out from under it. Soon instead of the sound of giggling as the boy would have done once the chase began again, but instead a frustrated grunt and frantic, " Mooommmyyy!"
Risika turned on her heel, surprised to not see Elazu behind her. Where was he, surely not still under the coffee table. She made her way toward the coffee table, kneeling down on the floor and peered under it seeing Elazu still under there, and seemingly struggling. But she wasn't worried, from time to time Elazu lost control of his limbs and fall through the floor, it was rare, but it did happen whenever he got really frustrated. All he needed to do was settle down and he would be able to pull himself out of the floor, and she told him so.
However, her reasonable words did nothing to settle the poor child, for he knew this was something entirely different from his usual limp transparency, and he voiced as such. Risika frowned, telling Elazu to keep his head down as she pushed the coffee table away from him, flinching at the noise of wood scratching wood, but that wasn't important now. A surprised gasp left her lips as she finally saw him.
Instead of his usual up to the knee missing position, he was down in the floor up to his chest, his hands frantically tearing at the slippery hard wood floor in an attempt to get himself out. A curse spilled from her lips as she launched forward, grabbing hold of Elazu's arms and trying to pull him out from the floor. But it was useless, it was as if she were trying to pull him from quick sand. She frowned, keeping hold of Elazu's arms as he tried to frantically scramble from the floor.
" Elazu hold still, just calm down hunny." Easy for her to say, but even harder for her to take her own advice. Watching Elazu's wide, terror filled eyes staring at her made her frantic. What if they couldn't get him out? This was different than from before, and perhaps couldn't be solved the same way? She did the only thing she knew could possibly save Elazu from sinking into the floor.
" Aubrey!" A few moments of silence, " AUBREY!" A few loud stomps and door slams and the teen was in the living room, hands on hips and a very angry look on his face. " WHAT!?" but his moment of frustration was soon wiped away as he saw the scene before him. What the hell was going on? He kneeled down next to Risika, pushing her out of the way as he grabbed hold of Elazu's arms in her stead. It was a good thing she had been holding onto him, but it was useless if she didn't know how to get him out.
" Laz, you have to settle down. Listen to me, I'm going to get you out okay?" Hearing his nickname coming form his older brother, helped him settle down, especially when the teen said he was going to get him out. Aubrey had very similar powers to Elazu, and due to his age and experience, knew what he was doing, and how to get Elazu out of the floor.
A deep intake of breath, and Aubrey shoved his arms into the floor, going in about shoulder deep. Risika remembered him calling it shadow transportation where he basically melted into the shadows and moved within them. Perhaps that was what was going on with Elazu? Aubrey's golden eyes seemed to be looking through the floor as his arms moved around, and after a few moments of heart wrenching silence and scared whines from Elazu, Aubrey smirked.
"Gotcha." A few quick movements to get his knees in place, and then he pulled, falling back onto his back once Elazu's weight hit him. He held the kid in his arms for a moment with a look of disbelief on his face. He didn't know he could do it, he had hoped he could, but didn't know if it would work, and obviously he did. He turned his attention toward Elazu, who was clinging to his shirt like it was his life line, eyes shut tightly and muttering what sounded like " thank you big brother" over and over again. Elazu's body was slowly becoming visible and solid, and once he was whole again, Aubrey risked his attention elsewhere.
The teen slowly looked up at Risika, who stared at him with her hands clasped tightly together over her mouth. He could tell that she was trying her best not to just grab Elazu from Aubrey's arms, and apparently keeping her hands clasped together was defiantly helping. He smirked at her and pulled his arms away from Elazu, who responded by opening his eyes and smiling at Risika.
The frantic mother grabbed hold of Elazu, instantly pulling him into a tight hug as she pet his hair gently over and over. She had seriously thought she was going to lose him, and if Aubrey hadn't been there, she was pretty sure she would have. She moved an arm and wrapped it around Aubrey's neck, pulling him into the small family hug. He grunted in objection, then sighed, knowing that it was useless once Elazu grabbed hold too.
" Laz, I'm going to train you."
" Okie Big Brother."
