I agree with the general consensus that Heero and Relena started out as obsession - or at least, dangerous flirtation. I think Heero was just trying to do his mission but a bit intrigued by this strange female who obviously found him fascinating enough not to let up on him. Most guys would find that annoying and/or scary, but he seems to like it. sweatdrop Anyway, at then end of the series, after all the trauma that's occured, I think Relena's grown up enough to let her fancies and desires go, and that included letting Heero run free and concentrating on important matters of the future.

Wow! Such an interesting topic.
Let me think for a second. Well... honestly I feel that Trowa and Midii's relationship is really one-sided. I say this because well, there's no hard evidence of Trowa loving her back.
I'm really interested in the Wufei/Meiran couple. I believe that Wufei cried over her because he had feelings for her AND he was upset that he wasn't strong enough.

When it comes to Heero/Relena, I agree that it started as obsession. Relena was grief-stricken by losing her father and she admitted to clinging to Heero in an attempt to get over her father's death. However, I believe that, as she learned more about him and his cause, she adopted a strong respect for him which turned to love. In Heero's case, I'm not really sure why he saved her. part of me wonders if he didn't instinctively save her because of his traumatic experiences over losing the little girl. Maybe he saw Relena as an innocent like the girl and didn't want to relive that experience again...who knows.
With Wu Fei and his wife, I believe he cared for her once he realized she was not just a "weak woman." However, his part in Episode Zero didn't necessarily scream "love" for me. I think he respected her. However, I wonder, if he really respected her as a woman and knew that she wasn't weak, why does he still hold his sexist views against women? Personally, I think Noin was a little obsessed, but she couldn't help it. She did everything she could for him and she always put him before herself which shows true love but she was also able to hold her own against him which shows that she was not totally dependent on him. However, I think Zechs loved her just as much. I mean, he couldn't hurt her either heart
Duo/Hilde...I really like them as a pair, but I personally don't think there was every anything between them romantically. I think they were loving friends who found comfort within one another.
Une/Trieze: I like this couple. Triee was laid back...Une was OBSESSED! to the point that she was psychologically messed up by trying so hard to please him. However, her love won out and she became the person she was meant to be.
Trowa/Midii...no clue sweatdrop

On the topic of Wufei and Meiran, he says to her that she is strong and that he accepts her as his wife when they're sitting in the field of flowers. Whether he says that to placate her because she's injured or not is unclear, but, when she dies without returning the words, Wufei is crushed. He tries to wake her, saying that she never accepted him as her husband.
Originally, Master O wanted to name Gundam 05 Nataku, but Wufei said Nataku was too weak to be the Clan's guardian. He says this because Meiran believes herself to be a reincarnation of the legendary warrior, and he defeated her in a fight. However, when he acknowledges her strength after her battle to protect the colony, in a way, he also acknowledges her claim. He then begins to call the Gundam Nataku for her, despite Master O trying to persuade him otherwise. Master O realizes that Wufei's motivation lies more in revenge than even his own. Master O is avenging the slain colony ambassador, Heero Yuy, but Wufei's vengence is much more personal.
