hey peeps.. i really have trouble encouraging myself to read my bible cause its always the best thing to do to bring yourself closer to God.. I am currently read John at the same time as a friend and we are gonna discuss what we have read tomorrow.. but what are some other ways to encourage yourself to read the bible more? i would like some people to post and share thier ideas on this and what works for them.

What I do to encourage myself is read something in contemporary language like "The Message" by Eugene Peterson and then read the same verse from my regular Bible so it helps me to understand things better...but thats just me..I hope it helps you some..

I've always said that you need 3 things to complete the cycle:
1.- Read the Bible 2.- Pray 3.- Fast
Every of those 3 things lead to the other.

I did most of my recent Bible reading during my last job that involved staying at a B&B. They kept Gideon bibles next to all the beds- which are split up into daily readings. I think there are quite a few like that. You can get all the books from the Bible seperately I think. So if you find the great hefty book a bit intimadating to pick up, you can use those instead.

I have a problem encouraging myself to read my bible as well. Last time I only got half way through Exodus. Now, I'm starting to read it again in a new bible that I got that's a study bible. It's pretty slow going and intimidating, but I'm trying to take a friends advice and just read a chapter a day or more if I feel up to it, but never read less than a chapter *basically, if you read 3 chapters one night, that doesn't mean you get out of reading the next night*. It's been working so far.

I tend to go through and find what I think is interesting. Sadly, that doesn't alway work. >.< I honestly need to get back into studying my Bible. I use the Amplified, usually. However, that one is currently at my mother's so a King James will have to suffice, if I can find it. It's a family Bible. I think everyone just has to find what suits them.

I have the same problem. I even go to a Christian College, and I still have a hard time.
Start small, and then work up. Like, start by reading your bible 2-3 times a week for 30 minutes. And just keep working your way up to every day for maybe an hour.
This isn't working for me personally, in all honesty. I'm still working.

Since I live with my parents (I'm only 12 XD) we all pray at night right before we go to sleep. And we each take turns reading a chapter. So, maybe you should read it with a friend. And before you read it you should pray just so you can get into the spirit of reading the Bible. I hope this has helped.
