I'm taking in November for the second time. mrgreen And the last time!
The first time I took it was a couple years ago now, so I'm afraid I may not be much help. But I know the hardest part for me was listening, since my Japanese class focuses on writing and reading. Most Japanese classes focus on speaking and listening, so you might be better prepared for that section than I was. In that case, make sure you memorize kanji, vocab, and conjugation forms. Like with all language subject tests, you can never perfectly prepare for it since each class will use a slightly different curriculum. Just be sure to listen and read carefully. If you're not sure on something, try to narrow it down to two answers, then guess. If you can't narrow it down, skip it.
Best of luck!

Holy crap! I just took a pre-test of it at school. D:
I got... 1 question right out of the second part of the "dialogue only" listening section. xD It was sooo bad. I got a 195/400 on the 2001 version of the test. After the writing section, I got so fed up, I stopped trying. D: Who the hell knew it would be the most important section of the whole damn test!!? gonk

I have taken the Spanish version XDD the format is EXACTLY the same and so are the questions, just in Spanish vs. Japanese. I didn't think it was hard at all.
