The usual spelling errors are Ang, Kitara, and Sakka...which really ticks me off sometimes. There's also Zukko and Suko, and I've seen Aang spelled Ahng.

Minor errors...bEwArE

If you check the rolling credits, you'll see that the names and spellings are correct in the first post. Mai (though it's pronouced Mei) is in the same situation as Sokka, which should be spelled Sakka if you are to be using the Japanese way of spelling the name. *shrug*

As the Avatar is based heavily on Asian influences, such as China, Japan and Korea, it's not a surprise to see that they would have some "funny" spellings for their names at times. Though, it can be hard to keep track at times on which country or pronunciation the names come from. sweatdrop

I just want to say something on the front of the Mai/Mei debate thing going on.

I have (/had) a friend who's last name was Mai.

Yes, originally it was pronounced 'My'. But over time it evolved and was pronounced as 'May'.

Not that I have a specific reason for this, I just thought I'd bring it up.

He's not Japanese btw, he's german (my friend.).

Sokka shouldn't count under this, since the Water tribes are based on the Inuit people.

xD

Sorry....I'm done.

er...

Another thing is that japanese pronunciation of the names of almost anyone in the fire nation (or various others) shouldn't matter, since they are mainly based on chinese culture and carry chinese names (ex. Long Feng[yes he isn't F.N., but he has a chinese name] is impossible in japanese. There are no real L's and Fe is not an actual sound. Along with the ending NG.) And other such names.

Sorry....not trying to pick a fight or sound snooty.

Also....Haru? xD Honestly. Really REALLY bad emphasis. I know a Haru. It's not HaRU it's more HAru. xD sorry. My friends and I like to make fun of it.

There are a few F.N. names I can think of that aren't Japanese though. Ty Lee and Zhao come to mind. Then there's also an Agni Kai which is from Hindu. I don't think the F.N. is based on any one nationality. (From our world)

(Not arguing with you on the Haru thing but just a little extra info for fun)
Remember that in Japanese the accenting of a word can actually give it a different meaning. The word "shiro" can be pronounced SHIro or shiRO. One means 'white' while the other means 'castle' (I forget which is which).

And nah, it didn't sound like you were trying to pick a fight nor did you sound snooty.

Random thing:

Anyone know where the name Zuko came from? I doubt it's japanese, because if it were it is one, very strange, and two, very feminine sounding. xD
