Eh it does seem odd because the doctor never seems to throw stuff out... but I guess he was feeling pretty awful because he had to leave Rose. Even cried *sniff* awwww.... Yeah, it's really sad but awesome all the same, sorta symbolising the end of his journey with rose. Start anew.
