Patton ::to Der Freischutz:: This mostly involves the resignation of both parties' historic causes and positions. The GOP was founded on much different ideals then the actions of the modern GOP. And actually, the Democrats have not changed much...they were founded on dominating and controlling other human beings, and they continue to do so to this day. Slavery, the original Ku Klux Klan (post-Civil War), most of the reformed Ku Klux Klan (1916-30s), Jim Crow Laws, socialism, welfare, the New Deal, etc. The fact that the GOP is compromising on their principles speaks more of Republican weaknesses then Dem beliefs. As much as I support the Republican Party (I am a College Republican, after all) I must say that such weaknesses should not be tolerated by anyone, in particular members of the GOP. A fence would be a good deterrent to illegal immigrants. I don't see why we can't make them attempt to come here legally. We could stand some resolve and toughness on many issues.

The U.S. has become such a UN pushover that I wouldn't be surprised if Kim Jong Il got permission to nuke us without a "preportionate responce" from our government. Mexico is a baby, they want their citzens in our country not paying taxes and sending the money back home. I would like to kick some of them so hard it would send them back to the time of the Mayans.

Berlin wall? This guy has to be joking. Nobody complained when the Berlin wall was built, and back then we had the UN! Why didn't they complain? They were scared of the Soviet retaliations. They respected the USSR.
Isn't it funny that nobody respects us now?
Vote Republican! It's what America needs!

Mexico is a funny place. xd
What can they do? Perhaps idle threats and attempts at assertion are all they have.

It'd probably cost about the same and would take half the time.

The Berlin Wall was built by an oppressive dictatorship to keep the people in. The southern border fence is being built by a free society to keep an orderly qeue entering the nation. It's not even meant to keep people out, per se...its meant to direct the flow.
There are some who still claim the American southwest is part of Mexico..."we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" and all that silliness.
I don't think we should assimilate Mexico. No one still in Mexico wants to be part of the United States, that's the whole point of illegal immigration...all the benefits of working here, none of the responsibilities. And anyway, that's the practical end result of NAFTA, CAFTA, SPP, et cetera...free trade in goods, free trade in services, free trade in labor (or laborers).

nabuto What about closing our borders? it sounds like a good idea to me....... I think that's a bad idea. That's a lot of lost business, and I really don't like the idea of an isolationist United States. A move like that would probably further alienate our allies.

This is true, i suppose. On the other hand, it would stop much of the illegal immigration and drug running from happening. I think we lose more money for the american people from lost jobs than we would from import. At the very least, there has to be some way to maintain a better watch on the border than military intervention. Im in the army, and the sight of military on the border would just invoke more anti-american news in foreign countries.

Better policing of the border would be the solution, though completely closing our borders probably wouldn't stop the flow of illegal immigrants, at least the ones that simply try to go around check points.

Dragonwarrior_Keltyr Berlin wall eh? Didn't the wall divide the same country in half? Since when was Mexico a state of the US? rolleyes My goodness...It was called the BERLIN Wall for a reason, it divided Berlin, which was a city that was in East Berlin but was occupied by the Americans, British, French and Soviets. The wall was built by the East Germans to prevent its citizens from escaping to the western sectors.
