The time has finally hit!!! I am in 11th grade and will be trying out for the suburban choir and hopefully the all state choir. I live in Missouri. Here is what i have to do this saturday for the audition!
~perform an opera solo, Che Fiero Costume (i picked it) ~ sight sing ~tonal memory ~ clapping rhythem ~key signature recognition
If I am in the top 20 for Bass part i can try out for state, and to get into state i have to be in the top 4 of that top 20 during the second round of try outs. i think i have a really good chance cause choir is my life. I am in 3 choirs and do other things...
Discuss if you have done this where you were from, and if you made it what was it like???? What are some good pieces of advice for this!?
what should i eat!?

Oh man. I totally can't sight read worth anything.
My old choir director was going to get me involved in things like that this year, but she had to move at the end of last year. TO ARIZONA. So that didn't work out too well.
In general, drinking SOMETHING before singing always helps. If I don't, my voice just doesn't come out right. I've heard milk is a bad idea from pretty much everyone, but it never seemed to hurt my performance. Maybe I'm just special.
But anyway, good luck to you. 3nodding

Try oranges, really acidic and work great for your voice. Gets rid of all the extra phlem and anything else in there. Don't eat them for more than two hours before you have a performance, and drink lots of water afterwards. XD

We have All-State in Texas, except they make everyone learn the same 10 or so pieces and have you sing random cuts. They have District (first 20-40 chairs), Region (first 20 chairs), Pre-Area (first 5 chairs), and Area (first 4 chairs - or less). The farthest I've gotten is Pre-Area, and I missed my spot there because of sightreading nerves.
That is my advice for you. DON'T GET NERVOUS. You tend to mess up easy things when you get scared of making a mistake. I know people who are so confident they can CURSE in the audition room and still make it to All-State (though that may just be talent ninja I dunno). Practice all you can, and never tell yourself you'll mess up - be sure of yourself and pretend you're by yourself or in your choir room and stay calm. That way you can do your best.

Go to State and kick a**. ^_^ I would assume do everything from before and remember, do not get nervous. Really the most important advise ^^" I did good at district in Texas. Made the 23rd chair ^^"
