My Sensi is great when it comes to showing how to manupulate the body and the bodys of others around you biggrin . However everything Ive learned up to this point is mainly just phisical manupulations and strikes! So how important is ki control? does it even have any impact on a fight?
please voice your oppinions but dont attack eachother on it.

I believe Chi or ki is only a form of meditation or spritual energy inside or internaly but in modern combat no I really don't think much of it. Some jug belly sifu's or sensei might say all of my chi is in my stomach sunken inside. He's right it's sunken and gone.

Chi, Qi, or Ki can be translated as air or breath as in breath control which is important. Chi is also considered a type of energy some think it is like bioelectricity. Some styles like Tai Chi and other eternal arts focus a lot on Chi training Chigong or Qigong In my Wing Chun training we use our first form the Siu Lim Tao the same way. In arts like Karate the Kiap is a yell that alows you to focus more energy the Ki in Kiap is the same word Ki, Chi, Qi. Some martial artist talk to you about Ki or chi when talking about techniques this is more or less about the way the body moves and reacts to things. Jujutsu for instance uses the attackers force to attack them. With some techniques they don't realy touch you they just do little movments to manipulate you into awkward angles and let gravity do the rest any way they may explain the reason for these things working as the power of Chi. Chi can stand for breath controle or powers of the mind focus meditation teaches you to get rid of unneeded thoughts it callms the mind and alows you to use great focus.

As my instructor explains ki (pronounced key) as energy. Basic energy that the body gives off, uses, and needs to live, strive and surivive. The whole idea of martial arts (according to our school) is to make Mind, Body, and Ki (energy) work as one with our surroundings. For instance (non voilent-non martial arts example) thinking about working on something, actually doing it, and making it as if you were doing nothing. That last part is where the energy comes in. The energy you build up my Ki-upping or yelling while kicking or punching is working out your energy control in your body. So if you could put legos together, lets say and you had an idea of what it looked like in your head(mind), you put it together(body), then while putting it together finding pieces and holding it together with out effort (is Ki). Now the martial arts example is, if you could palm strike 4 cinder blocks (like I have, and I'm so proud I did it ^.^), that is just using your mind and body, the next step or progression from 4 cinder block is not to add more, but to lower yourself and use more energy but less force. My instructor Master Borucki 5th Dan Hap Ki Do is working on sitting cross legged and busting one cinder block. So (image) he is sitting down next to the cinder brick being held up by blocks, his shoulder is on the same level/plane as the cinder brick, and just dropping his hand down on top of it. the force created by bring his hand down on top of the cinder brick is not enough to break the brick (physics will explain that), however if he uses the energy built up inside of him, it is possible to go through the cinder brick as if it wasn't even there. That is an example of energy. Also go to my Profile to see me and my break to understand what I mean, That is My Instructor and Master behind me in the video.
