Title

Teen Quest Part Six
A little wager

Vidya found herself back in her own body on the beach, on her knees with her hands holding onto her stomach as if she could feel the dagger that took the nymph's life. There were tears in her eyes, and while she at first thought they were reminants of Mirendiel's tears, she quickly realized they were her own.

He left me there. Mirendiel's sad voice echoed through Vidya's ears as the tale softly cried. Ghostly arms reached out to wrap around her in a mock hug. I do not mean to frighten you, dear child...I merely wish to warn you... The dead nymph gave a sigh. Your Captain will betray you, Vidya. You will go down the same path that I have. Once he no longer finds you useful, he will get rid of you---

"...No! No No No No No!" Vidya cried out, cutting of Mirendiel. With a little whine, the tale went on to clasp her hands over her pointed ears, and closed her eyes tightly. "My Captain is different than yours, he won't get rid of me, he said he wouldn't...!"

He only said that because it is what you wanted to hear. He did not mean a word of it.

"Y-You're lying! He couldn't...I don't have the magic you did! I'm just learning now...I...I've been his first mate since before my magic started!'

He is a pirate Vidya, he can not be trusted. Once your magic comes in full, and he sees how useful you can be, he will forget that you were ever without. The ghostly woman reached out, brushing two cold, untangiable fingers underneath the tale's chin. You can not argue that. You know I am right. She continued on, taking advantage of the tale's currently distressed mind to plant suggestions of betrayal. It was all working so perfectly: Vidya's insistance was starting to fade, she was starting to give into the thoughts Mirendiel was planting. Still, the dead woman didn't give the tale a chance to think things through.

Allow me to make a deal with you. If I can give you proof that your precious Captain will one day betray you, proof that even you can't deny...you will allow me further into your consciousness. Purely for your protection of course. I am not close enough in your consciousness to be able to protect you, to prevent you from following the path that destroyed me. Do we have a deal? This time, she gave Vidya a moment to think on it.

"...What is the proof?" If this proof was as undeniable as the nymph was saying, then she would need someone to protect her from the very man who promised he'd look out for her. Mirendiel grinned to herself.

The last time you saw him...you showed him a little magic trick, did you not? The tale nodded slowly. You showed him how you can manipulate water. He was curious about it, was he not? Again, a nod from the blue skinned tale. He was very nice to you after that, was he not? He let you pounce on him without a reprocussion. He carried you a bit of the way home, he held your hand on his arm. He gave you a hug when you hugged him. He was very nice to you...after you showed him your magic.

Vidya's eyes widened and her face paled. Mirendiel was right. She showed him her magic the night before! She even commented on how nice he was being! Everything she was saying happened after the magic trick, and after Vidya proclaimed she was learning more. Before she could say anything, the nymph was already speaking.

Judging by your expression, I win our little wager... The nymph's spirit seemed to lean back a bit, eyeing the tale's current form and spirit. It was clear that due to recent events, Vidya's energy had ebbed, some pieces of it were entirely missing. Despite the open space in parts of the tales energy, There was not enough energy in this particular form to make this end of the bargain work. That would have to change. I am afraid I will have to advance your body to fit in with our little...agreement. Mirendiel was pleased, and ghostly arms reached out suddenly to clasp their spirit hands over Vidya's temples.

Before Vidya could do or say anything, her world went black.

Title

Teen Quest Part Six
A little wager

There was a story that needed to be told, a story that went known for hundreds of years. I found a way to fight the threat of fading into obscurity and the nothingness that comes with it by finding a way to tell my story. Coincidentally, the unwitting child, one born from a tome within a magical study, falls into an eerily similar story to that of my own. My facade of the kind hearted nymph woman won over the heart of this child, and through a bet with a fragile mind, fresh back from the intangible pages of my story, I tricked my way into winning a more stable place in consciousness of this child.

My story was not meant to be told through this girl; there is another story, the one the tome originally meant for her to tell. I have decided, however, that my story is more important. The story this child is destined for has already been completed, but it just lingers on the edge of the forgotten, where all the old stories reside. My story needs to be told, for it is incomplete, it is still an open book; the last few pages have yet to be written.

For this is a tale of loneliness, of life, of love, of betrayal and death...And now, like any good story, the ending is about to come into play.

What ending is that, you ask? Well...

The inevitable revenge.

A flash of light crossed Vidya's gaze; or at least she assumed it was light...it could very well have been her vision going wonky again. Blinking the sensation away, she found the scenery of the lonely beach had faded away into the strange shapes of a regular old closet. Confused and disoriented, Vidya spun around, reaching out to grab the ledge of her dresser with one hand; a habit she acquired when something went wrong with her vision. However, instead of grasping the ledge like she always could, her hand hit nothing.

Startled, she stumbled until she nearly fell, and it was then her hand grasped the well-known edge.

"...What...?" She breathed out in surprise, her fingers tightening on the ledge. Why couldn't she grab it...? She always grasped it when she spun like this, why now---oh. Oh wait. Mirendiel had mentioned something about advancing her body! Maybe she was...

Vidya couldn't physically see anymore; her vision remained the same as it had been when she was on that beach with Mirendiel. She could see nothingness, but this nothingness was complete with the auras of the living and the vague outlines of the inanimate. She was waiting for this particular mode of vision to fade, but in the meantime, she just HAD to know if she had, in fact, grown.

Her first thought was to stand up straight and reach out. As a child standing straight, her hands should have hit the various toys and stuffed animals on top of the dresser. Now...she didn't feel the various toys. No. The top of her hand brushed underneath the little shelf that loomed over the dresser. The tale was delighted to note that at least she was taller.

Without her vision, she had to resort to physically mapping out her own body: now strange that must have looked to anyone watching her. A teenager, standing in front of a closed closet, staring straight in front of her while her hands pat very briefly over her figure. Needless to say, Vidya was embarassed. Of all times to not be able to see!

She felt older in every way one could feel older...and she was completely estatic over the change. Oh how she wished she could see herself! So enthralled was she with sliding her hands down her sides and over her hips (oh my god, I have curves! was something that she was quite happy with), she didn't notice that Mirendiel's presense had faded. It was still there like it had always been, but there was no massive change in the way she felt, or in her personality...yet.

"Mooooom~! I'm going to need more clothes...!" The new teenager called out happily (wow, her voice was different, too!), completely oblivious to the startling lack of Mirendiel's presense in her mind...and completely oblivious to what the wicked nymph had in store for her.

I will finish my story.
