Dee finally dashed into the lab, her forehead beaded with sweat. "Professor Rowan... Are there any pokemon left?"

She looked at the table and saw that her question was redundant; there were still plenty of pokeballs left on the table.

"Should I pick you?" She looked at the Chimchar and sighed. She'd always admired fire pokemon, but she didn't feel a connection. Of course, feeling a connection between a human and a photograph was kind of impossible, but she still didn't want to make the wrong choice.

She looked over to the Piplup. It was small - at least, it looked small in the photograph - but it seemed stubborn. Its eyes were defiant, and its feathers were ruffled in a way that made it seem bigger than it already was.

She smiled. "Professor Rowan, may I please have this Piplup?"

Astral Rain rolled 1 4-sided dice: 2 Total: 2 (1-4)

Professor Rowan watched as Dee looked through the pictures. Once she had settled on her starter, Rowan nodded.

"Of course," he offered, "Give me one moment, I'll be right back," the professor explained, before going to go get the small penguin Pokemon. Rowan returned a short bit later, carrying the supplies that would help Dee get started on her journey.

First to be handed over was the Pokeball containing the Piplup. After it, came several empty Pokeballs, as well as basic healing Potions to help get Dee started out on her own. Add to that a brand new Pokedex, newly registered with Dee's information and her trainer registration with the Pokemon League.

"Thank you!" She opened the pokeball, and out came a Piplup. "You're really cute... Hmm... Elphie?"

"Pip, pip!" The Piplup shook her head. Too weird.

"Then... how about Shannon? Nah, that's not cute enough. Okay. I've got it... Piper?"

The piplup crooned and snuggled into her arm. Guess that was a "yes."
