J O N 6 6 Agalloch. surprised They are Experimental. But I see you dont have a catagory for it so stick em in Black if you must. I would actually toss these guys into the Doom Metal pile along with Katatonia and My Dying Bride. They fit the category a whole lot better than Black Metal.

It was actually funny that today I happened to be listening to "Ashes Against The Grain" when I came upon your original post. I am loving the new album even more than I did the first two. But it just reminded me so much of early Katatonia that it was somewhat eerie. I love bands that can effortlessly blend so many different styles into one cohesive whole and make it sound like each one can't live without the other. Faith No More's "Angel Dust" and Arcturus' "The Sham Mirrors" are two others that come to mind immediately.

Just out of curiosity are ther any bands similar to Venom. Originally they were classifies as Black metal but some are trying to reclassify them as thrash. Anyone know any bands that are similar?

I'm not really sure what to call them these days (metal-archives says "technical/progressive groove metal", whatever that is - I'd probably call them prog-sludge myself) but I'd recommend Mastodon to anyone. All of their albums are good but Remission is probably the best starting point.
As for Venom, I'm not sure what to really call them either. They are definitely the starting point for the first wave of black metal (after all, it was their Black Metal album which gave the subgenre its name), but their sound was closer to early 80s NWOBHM with a good dose of thrash. You can hear this especially in their earlier years.
Unfortunately, I can't think of anything that sounds quite like them, probably because the first wave was before my time (I was only 4 when Welcome To Hell came out all those years ago.)

Quote: Industrial Metal -KMFDM - Ultra, Flesh, Brute, A Drug Against War, Free Your Hate -Bile - In League, Celebrity, Get Out, -Velvet Acid Christ - Speedball OD; Lust (for Blood); -Pigface - Insect/Suspect, Blow You Away (G.T.F.A.W.F.M.) -Ministry - Rio Grande Blood, Burning Inside, Animosity -The Birthday Massacre - Blue I'm not really sure if Industrial should really be included, but I won't argue with that. But: The Birthday Massacre =/= Industrial KMFDM =/= Industrial (If I remember right)

Evile! U.K based, Slayer and Anthrax influenced thrashers form huddersfield. They just recorded their debut album, Enter the Grave with Flemming Rasmussen and it's out now on Earache Records. If you consider Trivium and Bullet for My Valentine thrash, your in for a shock.

About one week ago the first SoulSpell - Metal Opera came out in Brazil
The album is called "A Legacy of Honor" and have some of the greatest Brazilian artists like Renato Tribuzy (Tribuzy), Nando Fernandes (Hangar), Bruno Maia (Tuatha de Dannan), Leandro Caçoilo (Eterna), ... have some paticipation...
For those who can get it, it's a great album!!
