By the time the sun had set and the light outside had dimmed, Drucilla's light had not. Caleb, still stung from their argument that morning, had taken to calling her Glowbug.

She was not taking to it kindly.

"Maybe if you would just calm down for a couple minutes," Caleb said coolly over dinner, "-you wouldn't be lighting up like a cheap Christmas ornament."

Mouth full of pizza, Drucilla simply glowered and glowed.

"Just a suggestion," Caleb said idly, picking off the onions on his pizza and arranging them on his plate into a stick-figure shape.

The night passed quietly between the fuming pair, neither speaking to the other and both frustrated with the uncomfortable silence. Caleb watched TV for an hour or two, and noted silently that as Drucilla watched "Blood Asylum 4: The Risen Undead Zombies from Saturn" her glow had lowered considerably - at least until the chainsaw monster appeared and scared the living daylights out of her. He bit back a laugh as she ducked behind an ice cube and hid her eyes behind her hands, daring only to peek out through her fingers. Drucilla caught his look and giggled slightly, smiling a bit up at him until both remembered they were angry with one another and abruptly looked back at the television.

By eleven o'clock, Drucilla was nearly asleep and so was Caleb. He switched off the TV set and picked up Dru's cup carefully, setting it back on her shelf and heading off to his room.

"...Caleb?"

Caleb turned.

"Mm?"

Knuckling her eyes sleepily and glowing faintly, Drucilla looked down at him from her shelf.

"I'm sorry I said you doesn't take good care of me," she said finally.

"Oh...it's alright, Dru. You were upset."

Shifting uncomfortably in her cup, Dru steepled her fingers together and looked away.

"Can I sleep in your room tonight?"

Caleb hesitated, then nodded.

"Sure, Dru. C'mon."

Taking her glass and going into his room, Caleb set Drucilla down on his bedside table, covering her first with a handkerchief so he could change into his nightclothes.

Throwing the kerchief off when she heard the bed creak with aged protest as Caleb laid down, Drucilla peeked over the rim of her cup.

"...goodnight," she said, glowing a bit again.

Privately hoping the glow wouldn't keep him awake, Caleb switched off the bedside light.

"G'night, Dru."

In the morning Drucilla's glow is no where to be found. Her voice has returned to normal and everything seems to be as it should. What a relief. For the time being anyway.

Drucilla woke to the sounds of birds chirping and traffic rolling past outside, deeply unwelcome noise that warranted a few words that would have prompted Caleb to attempt a soap-to-mouth wash.

"Shush up, stupid world," she said grumpily, turning over in her glass and pillowing her head against an ice cube. A moment later her eyes pinged open again and Drucilla did a frantic turn-around, certain she was going to discover she'd grown a mutant Siamese twin overnight. Things had been far too weird lately to get off so easily...

But a full body-check showed her to be perfectly normal, to her relief. Even that stupid girly pink glow was gone - she was pink, true, but she made it work. She didn't need any stupid glow to make her look like a cheap light-up girly doll.

"Thank GAWD," she drawled, reveling in the normal volume of her voice again. Caleb snorted and coughed in his sleep, rolling over and dragging a blanket over his head to drown out the sound of morning life. Drucilla watched him silently, eyes narrowed in thought. She wondered if he'd be pleased to see her back to normal, and fell asleep again still wondering.

Things seem to continue being auspiciously well, like a lull in a storm. There is a definite feeling that something is going to happen, something big that is just building. Waiting. When it will happen though, is unknown.

"Caleb..."

"Yeah, Dru?"

"...I feel funny."

Caleb froze. Oh no. Oh god, no. Not again.

"Weird how?" he ventured, trying to keep the panic out of his voice.

Sitting on an ice cube and nibbling at a bit of pancake Caleb had shared off his plate, Drucilla shrugged.

"I can't 'splain it," she said vaguely, looking uncomfortable. "I don't like it. Like....like....um...gah. I dunno, Caleb. But I do, I feel real funny. And not the good funny, like the time I gots Scout to pee on your bed 'cause I gave him a cookie."

Caleb froze again, but for different reasons. He looked down where Scout and Rio sat, looking up expectantly for scraps.

"Traitor," he said to Scout, who chirruped in response. "Anyway. It's too early to be monumentally irritated with you Dru, so I'm gonna pretend I didn't just hear that."

"Okee," Dru said, distracted by something she couldn't name and eating her pancake-bit, descending into moody silence.

Time seems to pass slowly, the foreboding feeling still lingering. Sounds and other small distractions that usually went unnoticed became very pronounced. Tuning out lingering smells or background noise is nearly impossible. The only remedy to this is total peaceful silence, however, when left in silence the feeling of impending uncertainty weights heavily upon the poor Drinkable! child. Such cruel fate with no distraction!

As the day progressed, Drucilla realized the funny feeling had mutated into a full-out Bad Feeling. Every noise seemed to ring in her ears and she was standing on the brink of a dreadful headache, grinding her teeth and wincing. She felt rather nauseous as well - every single smell in the house stood out in horrid detail, and were all clamoring for her attention. Her senses felt heightened, and miserably so. Never had Drucilla wished more to be isolated - a box buried in cement, a desert island, any place where she could be alone, and not sense anything.

With a miserable whimper and clapping her hands over her ears, squeezing her eyes shut and trying to bite back a scream - for heaven's sake, even the gentle clinking of the ice cubes against glass was unbearable! - Drucilla slipped under and tried to hide in the pomegranate juice, knowing she'd have to go back up for air eventually, and anyway being submerged didn't help that much.

This stinks as much as a dead squirrel on a hot day cookin' in a gross rain-filled garbage can fulla stinkbugs, she thought seriously to herself.

The hypersensitivity dies down when night falls, but that foreboding feeling still remains. Time's passing also continues to feel a little sluggish and Drucilla's vision has grown slightly blurry(probably from all the repressed screaming), but maybe things were taking a turn for the better. Maybe not, that peculiar feeling is still weighing down on the poor drink child.

Feeling weighed down, heavyhearted, melancholic, and unsettlingly quiet, Drucilla rubbed at her fuzzy-feeling eyes. She blinked, hard. The fuzziness stayed, and the word looked soft along the edges. Sigh. Another trouble to add to her horde of suffering, oh woe and misery, alas that this evil should be visited upon her!

"Jeez Louise. Tha's over-da-matic even fer me."

She tried to get comfortable. Couldn't. She tried sleeping. Couldn't. She tried counting backwards from one hundred, but could only get to sixty five before she got bored.

Drucilla sighed. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. She wished this unhappy feeling would go away - it made it hard to breathe, like that funny feeling she got when she was trying not to cry. It felt like there was something stuck in her chest, that made her breath come out wheezy and her eyes hurt and they were burning and ow ow ow now her nose was hurting and dripping and oh what's wrong now-

A little tear drop spilled and dripped into Dru's cup. She blinked, rubbed her eyes, sniffled again, and wholeheartedly started to cry.

"I'M SICK OF THIS AND IT NEEDS TO GO AWAY AND I'M DAMN TIRED," she shrieked.

Caleb, who'd been in the kitchen, poked his head out the door.

"Drucilla Lilith, language!"

Drucilla, still crying but beyond the touch of a real emotion and retreating into the comfort of crocodile tears and screaming whines, shrieked the curse word in rebellious repetition.

Curiously, she started to feel a little bit better. Even if her eyes were still feeling fuzzy.

A cloud of spinning pink mist spiders out from her cup lip when Drucilla starts to cry. It seeps down the side of her cup like a dense fog would, traveling across the table's surface. After a moment its outward reach changes direction and the tentacles of mist start to curve, creating a spiraling formation around the Drinkables! cup. As her crying continues the light cloud makes a swirling curtain around Drucilla, it's hypnotizing motion lolling her to sleep. A sleep that she doesn't wake from no matter how much yelling or prodding she receives. It's obvious she's still alive from her steady breathing, but it's lights out for Drucilla. Indefinitely.

It was soon after Drucilla's foul-mouthed outburst that an unsettling quiet crept back into the house, and Caleb was instantly worried. He ventured out of the kitchen with a frying pan in hand - a precaution, perhaps, in case Dru had mutated into a gigantic bloodsucking monstrosity - but found her slumped over in her cup, sound asleep. He gave a quick sigh of relief, running a hand over his face and so conveniently missing that final faint lick of fog that faded out of sight, wavering almost tauntingly in the air as it blew away in a nonexistent breeze.

"She must've fainted from lack of oxygen," he said to himself. The girl could absolutely scream at higher decibels than previously known to science, he was sure. He set the frying pan down on the coffee table and poked Dru gently.

"Wakey wakey," he said. He was unsurprised by the lack of response. Emotional exhaustion aside, he was certain she had moved up from crying on command to fainting at will.

"Hnf. What an attention hog," he said, sighing. "Alright, Dru. Have it your way."

And with that, he picked up her cup, set it back on he shelf, reclaimed his frying pan and went back to make lunch.
