I agree. i would never say something rude to someone who bumped into me or if I bumped into them. I would be embarassed and say "opps hehe excuse me" or "oh I'm sorry!" then again in states without bustling crowds every where or public transport it kindof hard to run into alot of people (unless u do it on purpose) lol

I generally try to give respect when due, like to teachers, or to friends parents that i don't know too well... but still, all americans aren't like what Aiko experienced. you would find alot of that in... say Brooklyn NY, the Bronx, generally any black part of any town. But, i have a friend from North Carolina that is very, very respectful. we can have a decent conversation without resorting to a cuss word thrown in there, unless in a quote that is.

~japanese crime is low (because when it does happen it is freaky)
~actually they dont, we know where they are every second
~and cartoons are a good example of american life too no rolleyes
~you think 8:00 pm is late, your strange talk2hand
~the strict laws in place (such as no make up no jobs etc.) that keep children from having to much fun insure that they wont be problem causers (unlike what ive seen in america, for shame! neutral )
~if you have not figured out yet, children in japan not only talk loud, but also have more sense of respect than north american countries, also lowering the risk of danger

(example of real life in counter i have when i was in north america, more shame on you! so rude!)

~theres police always all over the place in japan. even if crimes low.

You've noticed this, too? No respect for elders. When I was in Poland, we always had to say to everyone Mrs. or Mr. because it was polite and respectful. Here, there isn't anything like this, and whenever I have to say something to the teacher, I can't bring myself to say "you", so I just keep my mouth shut. Heck, I even say to my moms' best friend Mrs. although I've known her my whole life!

I was at corner store in america, of course with some one there with me, and when i bumped into someone lightly he started yelling. an dhe was about 15.

The kids at my high school (Japanese high school) are probably the rudest kids I've ever met in my life. They're loud and obnoxious throughout class and learn nothing because of it.
I think it's just insane differences in perspective wink Obviously not all Japanese kids are rude and loud, just as not all Americans are rude and offensive smile

I think that where you are and what sort of day it is makes a big difference in america.

If it's a hot day in a big city, people are not in the greatest mood. And I find that I meet a lot of americans who beleive very strongly in their right to express themselves, which means to berate anyone they want when they're not happy, or be rude, or demanding.

but They're such vivid examples, so stark and nastly, that they stick out in your mind. I mean, what about all the considerate people that walked around you. And it's polite in american cities to not look at people you don't know, and leave them be. And That's what I find most people doing, giving the polite nod if one happens to be caught looking. Although that's not the same in smaller cities or more contry areas. And the two are very different americas.

and even then, I don't know anyone that would say that living in Austin, TX is the same sort of people and life in Washington, DC, or Seattle, or New york.

So really, I think it's all different. But it is sad when some pissy jerk with a bad day takes it out on someone else.

Where I live (in the country) people are very rude, very very much *nods*, and when I lived in Downtown it was worse with some ppl thinking they were all that scream and where I live it is quite hard to bump into someone also.

((I hope I'm not butting in on anyone's conversation or just changing subject sweatdrop ))

This used to happen to me very often. I usually go for a walk for at about sundown, or I'm walking home from school (but I don't do that anymore now that I graduated. Then, next thing you know, I have some person yelling obscene phrases out of the window of his car. And I didn't even have anything to do with him, until he actually yelled at me. What's worse, is that the police don't do anything to stop it. What is with people these days?
