Stretching his forelegs, he yawned widely as the sun began to rise above the mountains behind him. He gazed at his mate and two sons and smiled slightly. He knew he would have to kick them out of his cave soon, but for now he let them stay by their mother's side. Flicking an ear, he turned his gaze towards the desert in front of him and wondered if winter would be harsh this year.
The previous year, winter had caused him to migrate to a more warmer climate and he hated leaving his territory unguarded for other wolves to take. Fortunately, Zhas, his mate, had stayed behind to protect his land. Shaking off the morning dew that had settled on his fur the night before, he quietly trotted away from the mountains and started looking for some food for his growing sons.

Darkness. He preferred it to the light. Hiei lifted his muzzle and stared at the lonely star filled sky before marching off. His stomach gave a loud grumble reminding him that he was in need of something to eat. He inhaled and paused, ears forward. He'd caught the scent of another wolf. A male at that. Hiei smirked and trotted toward the smell, red eyes glowing like embers in the darkness.

Tsume lifted a rock with his muzzle and gazed underneath it to find only a scorpian under it. Wrinkling his nose, he let the arachnid-like creature go as he lifted his head up slightly. He had caught the scent of an unknown wolf entering his territory. Growling deep in his throat, he quickly raised his head and tail high in the air as he gazed around the desert to look for the trespasser.

Hiei strode up looking less then happy. His coat was slightly ragged from being out in the hot sands during the day but he still held a high regard of himself. "Hn, I'm in no mood to take what belongs to you." He spoke bitterly. "I am merely come in search of food." He scanned the other wolf and gave a smirk. "And by the look of it, you are doing the same." He lowered his tan head and lowered his tail to prove his words were true. He would not attack the other.

Tsume narrowed his eyes slightly as the intruder approached him with a slightly angered look on his face. He ruffled his fur slightly and listened to the male's words carefully and pondered what his reply should be.
He quickly gazed back at the caves embedded in the mountain behind him to see if his mate was awake. He saw no signs of her. Sighing, he shifted slightly and sat down on his haunches. "Do what you will, but, if you mean to stay here longer than a few days, you must gain my permission to stay with my pack," he said in a low voice to the other male.

The wolf's head jerked up. Stay? Was he so trusting to invite a stranger to his pack? The wolf frowned slightly and gave a slight nod. "Of... course... How many are in your pack? If I may be so bold as to ask." He questioned also sitting down and flicking his tail. "If you are in need of food... I am an able hunter though prey seems to be harder to find then I was hoping." His voice hadn't lightened but the bitterness had toned down.

Tsume smirked at the other male's reaction to his comment about asking permission to stay in the pack. It was the same reaction every time me met a new male enter his packlands. The look never got old, though, despite him expecting it.
He glanced back at the caves and canted his head to one side before turning his gaze back to Hiei. "Before yesterday there was only a mere 9 pack members, but due to a rather amusing pack growth the other day it has jumped to fourteen." He chuckled deep in his throat after he mentioned how many wolves were in his pack. "Also, most of them are only pups. There are very few adults and teens present."
He gazed across the barren desert and narrowed his eyes slightly. "Game here is very scarce, yet my pack does need hunters. I think I may assign some of my adult wolves to go hunting with me." He was hoping the other male might take the hint and ask him to join the Barren pack.

Fourteen? Fourteen that he would have to be nice to. That he'd have to make nice with. He didn't want that kind of responsablity but a chance to BE accepted was nearly enough to make him say yes on the spot. The wolf held himself high and stared at the alpha. "Fourteen is a good number. A strong pack can be formed and pups can be taught how to fight for the good of the pack." His ear flicked backward.
He glanced over his shoulder as well and snorted at the dusty lands before him. "If they're inexperinced you may be in some trouble..." He commented dryly then growled in his throat. "I offer my services to you but dont take it as anything. I do not wish to starve and its easier to take down bigger prey with a group." Truth be told, he was more interested in seeing how a pack ran. He had been the product of two loners and cast out as soon as he was old enough to hunt. He wanted to know what a family tasted like.

Tsume nodded his head, agreeing with Hiei. "Indeed, it is a good number. It has doubled...no tripled since last year. Last year's pack number was rather...slim. Of course, it was the year the harshest winter came to the desert. I never seen anything like it since I was a pup." He flicked his tail against the ground, causing small puffs of dust to rise above the ground.
He tapped one paw on the ground and gazed at Hiei calmly. "There are a few who are capable of aiding you with the hunting-one of them is my adopted daughter, Raven." he canted his head at the other comment the male made and he raised an eyebrow slightly. "You have my permission to roam around here as long as you want. Just make sure that you don't harm any of the pups that might tend to wander around here without any adult supervision." He rose to all fours and slowly started to head back to his cave.
It was then that he realized that he didn't assign Hiei to his cave nor introduce himself. He slowly turned back around and gazed at the male wolf curiously. "My name is Tsume, by the way. If you wish to stay with my pack, your cave will be over there," he pointed to an empty cave with his muzzle before slowly moving towards his own cave.

The wolf nodded absent minded at each of his orders. He didn't intend on killing anything unless it attacked him first or was classified as food. It would be a cold day in Hell before a pup was put on that menu. When the older wolf rose so did Hiei, watching him go toward his cave. "Hn... Tsume..." He repeated carefully then with a bow of his head relayed his name, "I am Hiei..." He gazed toward the empty cave and let out a quiet 'thanks' before padding toward it. It would be his home.

Tsume glanced back at the other wolf to see him bow his head slightly and he twitched his ears at the other male's name. 'Hiei, huh? Amusing,' he thought to himself as he continued his way towards his and his mate's cave. He hoped that Hiei settled in his pack as easily as Gideon did.

Hiei entered his cave and gave a sigh of content. This wasn't bad at all. He slumped down and let his aching paws rest. He would just keep himself from getting *to* attached. That was simple enough. He was good at keeping others away from his heart. He rose his head once to glance at Tsume's cave. But one wolf couldn't hurt. He laid his head down and enjoyed the peace and the rest.
