That is an ideal situation where everyone would be happy at the moment. But I am a firm believer that you should do everything you can to save the marriage first. Thankfully the two don't have kids so it's not as complicated. But divorce is a very bad. Marriage is a union that you declared before God.
Yes it is but they both know that it will never work out. Would you like to be kept in a marrage that you really really don't want to be in because the other person loves someone else or your the one that loves someone else and you don't want to hurt your spouse? I mean I'm religious but I don't think that God would want you to hurt people in a situation that you and so many others are not happy with.... Did that come out right? I don't know it kinda makes sense.
I understand your point of view. I agree with it actually.
My key point is that I do not consider what Derek is doing is "everything he can to save the marriage." I give him credit for his moments when he knows "But Addison is my wife...". I know he understands what his marriage means, but his friendship with Meredith puts a fine line between a platonic relationship and romance.
He should go cold turkey on her. Yes, they work together, but they should only be together when work demands it. None of the "Just friends?" "
Just friends." crap. They can be friends later, but not so soon after what they had. They haven't let that fire extinguish yet. Again, he is only tempting himself and sabotaging himself. His wife deserves all of his effort to rekindling the love between them, and Meredith being a friend is not conducive to that. Eventually Derek and Addison may admit defeat and get a divorce. That is OK but not until you've really tried and given your attempt at a renewed relationship with your spouse sufficient time.
I realize that trying to impose morality on TV is laughable. Plus, if he did go cold turkey as I advised, it would make for horrible TV drama.
smile So, everything I said above is if they were real people and it was in real life. They're not and it isn't. So I'd say "yes", Addison should go with Mark and Meredith and Derek can be together. Everyone likes happy endings right? That is, until the writers throw another wrench into the mix.
