"I doubt you've even put any effort into trying to think of a way to escape. Just because one plan doesn't work doesn't mean you give up..." Gaius stated, folding his arms. What he'd seen of the islanders so far, there was no one even trying to escape aside from Antony. If that was any sign, then no wonder people were still trapped!

He raised a suspicious brow as Zach suddenly changed subject and held out an imploring hand toward Gaius. He looked down at the hand, then back up at the smirking dragon. He'd already learned not to trust the guy further than he could throw him. His grip tightened on the hammer possessively. "...Why? What do you want it for?"

"Give up? Hah. I've jussst moved on. It'sss not like I even want to leave at thisss point. It's not ssso bad here sssometimesss..." At the moment, though, he wouldn't have minded a good sturdy door, or a meal that didn't flail in its death throes before he had to gobble it down. Actually, living this way was pretty terrible. Not a moment's respite from worry. "Eh, even if now isssn't one of those timesss."

"Nothing! I jussst wanted a look... but never mind." He dropped his outstretched hand as if he'd suddenly lost interest in badgering Gaius for the hammer. It looked like he was still taking some form of enjoyment in bothering the guy. Deep down he would have been surprised if Gaius had been dimwitted enough to hand the tool over and get himself unceremoniously kicked out into the jungle as well. His massive canines poked out from between his lips as he continued to grin bitterly and speak. "You can keep it if you need it that badly." He moved backward several steps for good measure and let his long, ridged tail drag itself slowly along the ground.

"Not want to leave?" Zach's answer managed to get a snear out of Gaius. He'd already doubted Zach's sanity beforehand, but that solidified it. What psychopath would actually want to stay?

As the dragon-man withdrew, Gaius eyed him warrily and slipped the hammer back in the loop of his workjeans where it would be safer. Zach was a strange sort, and Gaius didn't know what to predict. He could leap forward to snatch the hammer for whatever reason and run off to hide it somewhere just out of spite. At least, that's what he believed.

Gaius frowned after the dragon. "What's with the attitude? What have I ever done to you?"

"Nope." He shook his head, his expression pensive. "Why leave? I'm becoming sssomething much better than sssome of the thingsss people are becoming, and it meansss I'm useful to... sssomeone. And this place gave me back sssomething I didn't think I'd ever get back. I'm not going to compromissse what I have now any more than I already have. I can't..."

"I'm feeling a little aggresssive right now isss all," His neck was curved at an angle that looked rather dangerous to a human. This new question brought a renewed smile to his face. Despite the uneasiness in his answer to Gaius's haughty-sounding sneer, Zach was quite comfortable now that Gaius didn't appear to be dangerous. The human presence drove away the harsh whispering of nature that plotted against him. It was the first time in many days he was relieved of his silent suffering. "Though I'm disssapointed you couldn't take a little joke the firssst time we met."

"And of courssse, sssiding with that damned lion..." he hissed, letting his anger get the better of him. Isolation made him more prone to letting things slip. "I hope Sssabin dealt with him."

Gaius's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean, 'dealt with'? Did you have Sabin do something to Rex?" Picking on Gaius was one thing, but if Zach was harming others just because they'd stood against him... There was a definite wave of hostility behind Gaius's expression. "If you did..." he trailed off, letting it hang. Not that he would actually do something to harm the dragon, but Gaius could think of a few choice words he'd like to use. "Rex is a nice guy, and unlike others, he doesn't pick on the new people who don't know any better just to amuse themselves."

The scowling architect folded his arms, giving the dragon a studying look. If he was in league with Sabin, and was so happy being there, then he was probably on the side of the labs, which meant, in Gaius's mind, Zach was siding with the bad guys. That could make him dangerous if he found out about the vodka bottles, or any other plans Gaius and Antony could think up.

"Do you... stay around these cliffs most of the time?" he ventured. It'd be best to find out where Zach often roamed so that he could avoid the dragon.

"Oh, I don't know what exssactly yet, ssseeing as I ended up out here shortly after I asssked. But yesss. He wasss more than happy to." Zach looked utterly maniacal at the thought of the revenge ignoring Gaius's little quip. "And not jussst Rexss. Sssomeone elssse too. The guy who'sss part-cobra. I got them both for what they did to me."

"You jussst don't underssstand. Both of them dessserved it." Zach walked a large arc around Gaius along the rocks, tail lashing. His frill was out, and it was evident that Gaius's empty threat had spooked him. His eyes went from human to hammer with worry. Even so, he refused to give up his notion of being right.

He stopped his slow circling and stared at the hammer-wielder out of the corner of his eye. The need to spread his bat wings wide and fly away from the danger at hand assaulted him and made him distracted. "Why should I tell you?"

Gaius watched darkly as Zach prowled, speaking with obvious glee about what he'd done to the other islanders. He claimed they deserved it, that it was all their fault, but Gaius had serious doubts.

He shrugged casually, trying to look as calm and uninterested as possible and failing at it. "Nooo reason. Just, uh, wondering is all. I guess a cave would be appropriate for a dragon."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 22, 2006 11:45 pm

The comment elicited an infuriated hiss and more deliberate pacing. What was wrong with caves? He liked caves. Even his damp little cave was cozy in some strange and inexplicable way. It wasn't like he could just go live in a tree or something.

"I'm not buying that!" he growled. There was the panic and terror again, roiling in a distinctively lizardlike fashion at the edge of his consciousness. He'd been wrong to let his guard down. This was the price he paid. "Jussst want to know so you can come kill me in my sssleep? Isss that it?"

Gaius balked at the accusation, his own temper rising defensively. "I wouldn't do something like that! How can you even think that?!"

He took a step back, the sight of Zach's angry stalking combined with the lashing tail and extended frill made him feel uneasy. His mind jumped back to his movie knowledge, specifically a well-known dinosaur flick. What if... what if Zach could spit venom or something? Gaius took another step back, watching the dragon warrily.

"You're crazy, whatever else you are! You're a beast!"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 23, 2006 12:24 am

"And you think I'm the crazssy one!" He almost laughed. Almost. "It'sss would-be killersss like that cobra who've shown me how dangerousss mossst of the people here are. And you're jussst like the ressst of them. Get away from here! Get away from me! I won't let you kill me!"

It was still a relatively wide circle he'd made around the cliff, he realized, so he'd have to get closer to convince this trespasser to get away. He sank down even more, arching his back and opening his wings wide, and leapt at Gaius. Inevitably he would have fallen short of landing anywhere near the other man by a good couple of feet, but with his clawed hands curved and sharp teeth bared, it may have looked like there was a little more 'oomph' to the jump.

The sudden attack startled Gaius, who jumped back, raising his fists defensively even as his heart leapt into his chest. His hair stood up on the back of his neck. Part of him screamed to get out of there, to run back through the jungle, to escape the mad dragon. He wasn't about to give in, though, at least not in that undignified way. He took another step back, wide eyes locked on Zach.

"You're crazy!" he cried again. "You're as crazy as the wolf girl!"

Quadrupedal movement was still a bit of a hassle for him, so he landed much harder than he expected on his hands amd arms and was thrown off-balance. The mistake left him feeling vulnerable many moments too long, and he scrambled to get back to a safe distance again. Claws clacked loudly against the cliff rock as he moved about, looking for the cave he lived in as a refuge. It was a wonder he worked his way back to bipedal motion by the end of that frenzy.

"You're crazy!" he shouted back at Gaius, barely listening to what he said as he continued to try and force the other man away. Words, words, only words. Maybe they were words enough to force the guy to flee.

Gaius continued to back away. Zach was no safe creature to be around. Gaius was still there only because he didn't want to expose his back to the raging monster.

He shot the dragon one last glower, and shouted, "Go back to whatever cave you crawled from, monster!" With that, he turned tail and made a dash into the jungle, not about to wait around for Zach to use his claws on anything beside the rocks.
